Bought rubber from Precision Replacement... worked fine for the 3/16" replacement glass, did not like the 1/4" glass. I Ended up wanting to use 1/4" green glass, had a piece cut locally (due to wanting all glass be the same shade of green) and bought a "Trim-Lok" piece of window rubber for 1/4" glass and 1/8" sheet metal from glass supplier/cutter. The picture shows the older glass with rubber, will post updated when fit the new... the old glass was installed to double check the clearance between rubber and glass - .22" to .25"

The window rubber, it seems, is nothing unique... appears to be the universal two piece locking rubber that can be found at most auto glass suppliers. Your results might vary... my experience

EDIT: The Precision rubber looks like it is sized for 1/4" as well. The window opening still needed 'massaging' when initially installed. That said, it just looks like the ordinary 'universal' two piece strip. The bigger issue is the glass... ended up buying the back glass 3 times... the quality of the cut and polishing are hit/miss.

Gauge cluster rebuilt... had Ron over at Williamson Instruments work his (and his wife's) magic:

Wanted an original looking cluster to work with the 5.3l/4l65e.

All gauges rebuilt and set-up for electronic senders
All new lenses
6000rpm Tachometer
1969 Corvair clock converted to Quartz movement
Cable X control module for electronic speedo





Some more 'magic' to come on my end but is coming along...

Backend is mocked in to check inner wheel (wheel lip) clearance... and to check stance. Now ready to tear all sheet metal off and send to painter and work on chassis mods...

18x8 wheel, 255x55x18 tire, 4.5" backspace (4" drop in rear, front will be 2.5" drop spindle with 1" drop coil)
No clearance of inner lip needed, clearance approximately 2"

Is your rearend stock width? What are you using for the front suspension, I mostly curious as to the difference in the new WMS compared to the old WMS measurements. I am going to order my wheels soon, and I'm trying to compare combinations that I like the look of.

Rear end is stock width (12 bolt) with Baer big brake disc...

Thanks for the info, so many are swapping a 1971 or 1972 rearend in for the pattern change which makes it 1 1/2" wider.

Only takes 101 individual steps... For something so basic, it sure has a lot of individual parts! The grille will have a detachable 'mil-spec' harness and a daylight running module once installed.

Quick benchtop test to check bleedover (need to correct left turn area) and, more importantly, ask the wife which color she wants... it will be green.

Now to figure out how to incorporate a High Beam indicator, Check Engine indicator and Cruise Control power into the cluster.

Looking at fixing/updating the lower door after (as many of you know) it has been hacked to fit a speaker. Using it as an opportunity, I did not like that access to the lower section of the door is limited... I wanted access for sound deadening, ease of glass install and make installing power windows and locks a little easier.

Burned these out (with cut template) on the plasma and will bead roll them in a few variations: 1, the 'stock' bead roll pattern and 2, a bead roll pattern that allows for a speaker install without looking out of place. Trying to 'update' while keeping some of the original 'feel'... even used the same fastener pattern.

Found these Custom plaques at a swap meet and will be using them somehow... that's the direction, will post update once finished bead rolling.

Access to the inner door is pretty good now, you can see in the pics. Just a CAD 'cut template' which gives a grinding line to follow that will align the J-nuts to attach the lower panel. Will post bead patterns after they get worked out. Thanks

man… i really like that door panel idea. so many of the doors have been cut for speakers and it takes a ton of time to fix them, never liked the factory door bottom as it is weak, like old dies were used and the replacement panel isn't even close. your idea solves a bunch of problems… gonna steal that one.
