Welcome from Connecticut! Say hello to your dad and Brian for me! What could be better for your first truck than a 67 short step that you and your dad restored.

Welcome from down the road a ways! Carl71 is right, your dad knows a lot about these trucks. Someday I may catch up.

You're definitely right on that one! My friends and I are always trying to find a yard with decent parts around here. I even check at the yards when I'm at college. Too bad that's in Michigan and the trucks are usually in worse shape!

A few more details about the project.

We've replaced all the front suspension components as well as all brake components (front and rear). New brake and gas lines too.

The truck will be a 67 small window stepside, sitting on a 72 GMC chassis with 5 lug disks and a leaf spring rear. The entire chassis has been cleaned and painted.

The drivetrain is a 350 backed by a 3-on-the-tree tranny and new clutch. The engine has an Edelbrock 650 carb with HEI and dual exhaust using the stock rams horn manifold. PS, and PDB.

The cab will have all the 67 CST touches including stock 67 buckets and chrome/lucite centered horn button. We even have the correct choke delete plate for the dash.

Red is the planned color with chrome bumpers and fawn interior. OE steel wheels and chrome dog dish hubcaps.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't think a '72 GMC chassis, 5-lug disk brakes, rear leaf spring rear end, 350, Edelbrock carb, and HEI were correct for a '67 Chevy???

But seriously, why are you switching to a GMC rear leaf chassis?? A coil spring chassis is much easier to slam!

Wow, the apple didn't fall very far from the tree!

It actually was a serious question? Why the leaf spring chassis?

Since he's doing homework, I'll explain.

First of all, apologies for not realizing you were serious with your inquiry.

Basically, it boils down to availability of parts. Where we live, finding a 67-72 that is not a rusted piece of junk is indeed rare. The frame on his 67 was a coil spring frame in fair condition but would have needed a lot of sand blasting and replacing of parts. We located the 72 GMC rolling chassis for $125. It was a NC truck with no pitting and was already painted. Plus it came with disk brakes and a 3:07 rear. It was really a no brainer.

Coils are a nicer setup for a lot of reasons, but leafs are more stable in stock form and there are absolutely no plans to lower this truck. It's a daily driver and the climate/roads here are not made for "go-karts"

FYI, I've never seriously proclaimed stock is the only way to go, or that anything outside of 100% stock is wrong. It's a game to see what kind of reaction I can get from those flying directly against that school of thought and I see from your signature I've made you a little self concious.:p I prefer the stock look, but have nothing against any upgrades.

As a matter of fact he can do what he wants with it except cut the dash...I'll kill him!
