Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
when I first got my truck I never really cared for the lights but after I did my research and saw other trucks with out them the cab lights then became one of my favorite features

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
I would submit that a 3/4 ton WITH cab lights and WITH coils is something you'll spend a lifetime looking for. A Cheyenne Super with that combo was for sale a little while back - was a Custom Camper also. I'm assuming it's gone by now. Look back a few pages in the CL ads thread to find out if you want. She was a little off.... But the truck was nice - I DIDN'T buy it specifically because it was a coil spring truck. Didn't want that in a custom camper 3/4 that I planned to someday put a camper on. It was a good price too, if I recall. Needed a little work, but not bad at all. Might I ask why you prefer coils on a 3/4 ton? In my experience, I actually (and surprisingly) like the ride better in my leaf trucks.

Looks great. That little raised portion really ads to the look for me.

I've had both leaf and coil trucks now in a variety of spring rates, and I've found for the given weight carrying capacity that the coil trucks feel more planted to me. I'm totally in agreement, if I were towing or carrying high loads like hay or something, I would want leafs out back, but just for general haulage and towing I prefer the way the coil springs behave. I'm chalking it up to personal preference!

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
ICC required the clearance lamps at over 10,000#, which was the dual rear C/30s. I think the law began prior to '69, but the 67/68s were to be upfitted. The law would have come along once the '67 design was in motion

Conversely, it is not illegal to add them to other trucks. I believe cab lights were a free-flow Regular Production Option or perhaps an Accessory Option. Some people just liked it and ordered them. If you see fewer on 3/4 tons it is just a coincidence. |

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
I was under the impression that marker lights weren't required until you were over 79.8" in width. Is there a height trigger as well? Or why would a non-dually C30 require it while a C20 wouldn't? That doesn't make a lot of sense at first blush.

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
Interesting thread, I have a 1-ton dually chassis mount camper with the factory cab lights, just the raised portion is left, Beaver Campers really cut the sheet metal on this cab, but the raised portion is still there. Also have my '71 Longhorn up for sale with the "Yankee" dealer installed cab lights on it.

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
That's a way cool pic!
I wish I had thought of it when I had the roof stripped for paint. I can't put them on now; it would be a pain in the neck with the cab-over camper shell. Those lights take it from "truck" to "Mr Truck", for me. Same goes for white/hugger orange/white. Mine got repainted (before I got it) with the lower white painted orange. I love that older look.

I picked up a set of those cool bumps haha.
Excuse the background mess I'm purging. I started reluctantly, but now I'm on a tear.

Re: Roof marker lights, very uncommon??
I saw a cab with them in a wrecking yard here in Portland a month or so ago. The cab was fairly crunched but the roof looked ok. I didn't spend a lot of time investigating as it wasn't going to fit my Burban. But if you want I can swing back by and check it out.
