Re: Project Pumpkin
Okay so i'm not gonna give all the details on how to cut down a LWB because they are all over the internet and its a bunch of boring measuring, cutting, leveling, welding etc. Gotta cut the rear cab mounts off and then measure off those rivet holes and make it all straight

Re: Project Pumpkin
A buddy of mine said he new a guy with a 71 cab in decent shape that was about an hour out of town so I figured hey why not lets go check it out. Turns out the cab he was talking about was cut up for scrap. No luck, but he did have a flip down license plate bracket that is commonly used when you re locate the fuel tank to under the box when running a camaro tank. And it was free! yay.

Re: Project Pumpkin
I plan to be throwing some serious power down to the tires so i found a fresh rebuilt 1997 4L80E for sale. Its a 2500 trans and is much stronger than the 4L60E that was in the yukon so I picked it up! paid $1400 with a tail housing and a trans-go manual valve body conversion kit.

Re: Project Pumpkin
Now while I was there I saw that he had an LS sitting under the bench and I said "Hey! whats the story on that gem?" Told me it is an LS2 from an 08 Trailblazer SS and the number 1 cam bearing has failed and it was just a core. He didn't want to sell it so away I went. When i got home i looked into LS2's and found out that they have an aluminum block, flat top high compression pistons, and 243 heads. Now i really want it, it took 3 weeks but we agreed on a price of $700 and I went back as fast as i could!

Re: Project Pumpkin
So i'm at work one day and my co worker says "hey, you know what would be pretty bad ass, if you put your truck on the denali frame and made it all wheel drive" and i'm like "yeah okay, while i'm at it i'll cure cancer and end world hunger" Joking aside i did some re search and well, its totally do able! Found a truck called Young Frankenstein that was a custom 72 4 door C10 on a 2001 Chevy 1500 chassis. Where you ask? Well 67-72 Trucks.com of course.
Here's the link! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=426382 |

Re: Project Pumpkin
So as you can imagine this changes the build entirely but there are benefits to using the yukon chassis. Here is the list as follows.
1. All Wheel Drive 2. Big Disk Brakes at all 4 corners 3. 4 Link rear suspension 4. Its fully boxed an a whole hell of a lot stronger than the 72 Chassis. 5. ITS FREE BECAUSE I ALREADY OWN IT. |

Re: Project Pumpkin
So looks like the body is coming off the chassis so here we go. Ditched all the electrical, unbolted and shimmed the body.

Re: Project Pumpkin
Now this thing is a pig. I'm a big guy but im not that big. How the hell am I gonna pull the body off the frame. Talked to my buddy at the scrap yard and he said to just strap the chassis to the trailer and they can pick the body off the frame. So away we went!

Re: Project Pumpkin
Well, aside from forgetting the parking brake cable and the operator lifting the trailer a foot in the air until the cable broke it went well!
