I'm trying to spend as little on parts for this short block as possible because I need the money to buy the twin turbo kit and the cam that's going to work well with a good amount of boost. I have a feeling my current 350 is on its last leg, and I've always wanted to have a turbo (or two lol) on a V8. |

Re: Good line on a SBC short block?
Here's mine from yesterday, I was working on the intake piping. Under $1000 invested outside the motor, cheap eBay turbos and headers and pipes and valves.

Re: Good line on a SBC short block?
I want one! wonder how much boost my low compression engine could handle without forged pistons. mr turner you and your friend are a bad influence.

There's sure a lot of cheap stuff on eBay! All of that aluminum 3.5" pipe, the clamps, the couplers, and the rest of the pipe still in the box was under $200, whereas you can spend that on someone's intake tube if you're not careful. If it's a common piece, you can find it dirt cheap on eBay usually.

Technology and innovation are driven through dissatisfaction. Knowing what you would like, but not being able to afford it forces you to "invent" alternate routes. I saw a video on youtube (don't remember the title) where a guy modified a Honda motorcycle carb to fit his chevy inline 6 250. To me, that is ingenuity. Either way, with all the advice in this thread, I'm sure mr. turner is going to end up with an engine that makes him smile.

Re: Good line on a SBC short block?
Find a low mileage L31. They're cheap and around here you can buy the rusty whole truck for $500 easy and scrap the rest. Change cam, add a carb intake for a vortec and run an electric fuel pump and I bet for less than $1500 you are at around 400hp in a great running street engine. And if it blows up (it won't) build another one.
