In 1990 or 91 my 72 K10 I had at the time got cracked up pretty good at that time you could buy a complete front clip for our trucks..
I don't think GM makes anything for these trucks anymore

Re: Does GM make our parts anymore?
All things considered GM is functioning much better lately compared to past CEO's tenure. It's a shame GM does not appreciate its customers, if it truly did, any one could contact the the company and order a part just like you can today if you own a Mercerdes Benz. Imagine the guy at MB who noticed how frequently people where ordering parts for cars 30,40,50 years old ? Same could have been done at GM years ago, my god how many 55 Chevies, 69 Camaros or Vista Cruisers still running and being loved does it take to build a business model ? Planned obsolescence and turning your back on your customers produced the results GM found itself in during its bankruptcy.Even John Deere can provide a part for a F&@KING tractor built decades ago. My grandfather worked in management at GM for 37 years, retiring in 56, he firmly believed in the old motto, "What's good for GM is good for the country " today I don't know...

Re: Does GM make our parts anymore?
They are required by law to provide parts for their products for 10 years and that is all they are concerned about...if they even do that! They had to make it a law! So, that tells you what they'd be doing if not legally bound. This is the business model of modern America... "Whatever you can get away with", and "Do the right thing" is just some silly old saying for old folks to struggle with till they're dead and out of the way

What I don't know is the emissions warranty, which is 10 years. They likely have to cover the engine parts but not bumpers, steering wheels, etc... As much as I'd -like- GM to stockpile parts in a warehouse for my cars, I don't think they have any ethical or legal obligation once the warranty is up, and in most cases they do of course exceed that amount of time. Usually... Could you imagine Apple having parts for a 10 year old iPhone? Well they can't, because the iPhone 1 was only 9 years ago :-)

Re: Does GM make our parts anymore?
According to what I read... the manufacturer must repair an emission system for 8 years. The law does not require them to make parts but if you have to make repairs it only makes sense to have the parts available.

iPhones are throw-away tech (and throw it away is what I'd do if ever I had one). Vehicles are supposed to last for a fairly long time.
