Clutch linkage picture request

I have the bracket that bolts to the block but it will put the pivot ball directly behind the header pipe. The biggest issue is the header, i think.

My son's 70 GMC K20 has the single screw-in ball mounted directly to the block like the OP has shown.

I agree that the Z-Bar the OP has appears to be from a 6 cyl based on the Z-arm locations and orientation.

It DOES look like an easy fix to get the offset ball with plate from a 69-72 2WD V8 and everything should line up.

Don't forget to drill a hole in the clutch fork end so your retaining spring has a place to hook. Normally there is a Vee-shaped anvil that mounts on the end of the clutch rod, but your clutch fork does not work for that.

So one end of the clutch fork return spring is supposed to grab the fork and one grabs...what...the z bar? Parts are in the mail, I may be asking stupid questions since I can't see a tab on the part in my hand... The diagram posted on page one looks like it has such a tab.

There is a bracket that bolts to the block using that hole and the forward hole, about 4 inches forward on the block.

The bracket is available aftermarket...and someone on here may have one to sell.

If you can wait a few weeks, I will have one for you, as I am going auto with my build, the truck is currently V8 3 on tree, so it has the cross link and all brackets...

Is it advised to not use the hole in the block for a V8 application? Here is what I'm looking at, and it sure looks like it will line up in the block. 71 frame with bracket as it was when I got it. 292 truck, 350 that was set up in a 4 speed '65 C10.

These pictures show some 6 cyl Z bars and a V8 Z bar and bracket on the bottom right also the pivot ball bracket mounted to the Small block engine , The V8 Z bar is longer and the V8 frame mount is noticeably different .

You say the frame mount is noticeably different; how so? Is it further forward? That would make sense with only one linkage length type, so all V8 applications would need both the mounting plate on the motor AND the V8 frame mount?

Looks like I need both if that is the case! More hard parts hunting ahead...

Just find a V8 z bar and use the 6 frame mount redrill frame holes to line it up . look at the bottom right of the picture above to see the difference in the frame mounts . Classic has the part .For The block bracket I'd post a WTB (want to buy ) ad in the parts section in here After becoming a subscribing member

So use the V8 Z bar and relocated 6 cyl frame bracket lined up with the ball stud still in the block, correct?

EDIT: re-read your post, sorry. I see you still said to go grab a block bracket. Makes sense given one length of linkage fits "all"...

I’m converting from a L6 to a 383 V8. The engine is mounted in the L6 location using the six cylinder mounts. Now the 6L Z bar and bracket line up but the bar is too close to the engine to slip over the pivot ball. Should I shorten the Z bar, slip the ball stud inside the tube and then try to thread the ball into the engine block ?

My small block is in the I6 location and its a mix of parts for the clutch. The upper rod is a the stock I6 (truck was originally a 4 speed) the bell crank is a V8 unit turned 180 to clear the headers, on the block side the ball is just screwed into the block, then the stock linkage back to the original fork. All works nice an smooth.

You Might have some luck with these guys. I replaced all of my parts last year ordered from them and everything fit as it should, but mine was an R and R application with the exception of the pedal to Z bar link.
I upgraded to the aluminum with Heim joints which is easier, smoother, tighter and quieter.
