Re: My “FREE” 56 truck build!

be real careful about heating up the roof panel when welding that skin on. use a hammer/dolly after each short weld so it doesn't shrink up and distort everything. let it cool off between welds. better to waste time welding that doing bodywork later. I like to have a couple of things on the go when doing that stuff. do a weld then go do something else till it cools off.

Thanks, that is the plan. I'm in no hurry. I should just glue it on with some 3m body panel adhesive. Kidding, sort of...

Re: My “FREE” 56 truck build!

Well I screwed up my steering rack. I can’t get the damn ends off to install the 2” extensions. I heated it up thinking loctite, and the damn plastic bushing melted. I cranked on it with a 3 foot wrench and nothing. How the eff do I get these off??

Is that both sides? 1 side isn’t a left hand thread per chance? Just a thought

Re: My “FREE” 56 truck build!

Got distracted by some dirt bikes, and haven't touched this in over a year. recently back at it, so thought I'd post a few update pics. Got the cab set on the frame , and miraculously, the mount holes all lined up. Grrrr... no matter how I rotate the image, it comes in sideways. I give up.

Here you go. So I save your photo and then right click on it, "Edit with photos." Rotate it and save it. That's it. I know some have issues posting with their phones, or so they've said. Just post them and if they don't come out right, I will straighten them up for you

Re: My “FREE” 56 truck build!

Lets try one more... I'm a little concerned about the cast iron housing supporting the weight of the motor/trans now that i've gone to a rear mount.
I've never used one of these before, and I am thinking about replacing it with a lakewood. Thoughts? I'll be running a hydraulic slave cylinder on the side to drive the fork.
