For your radio, you can always get you're hands on an original and send it out to be upgraded with modern features, like Bluetooth etc. Do a search for it, there's several board members who have done this. Not sure off the top of my head how pricey it is tho

Thanks for the radio suggestions!! you guys are great ���� i ordered myself a unit from retrosound after doing quite a bit of reading they look nice and somewhat original looking.

I liked the idea of modernizing the factory radio but being as I didn’t have it this seemed like a nice compromise. Perhaps in time I can track one down and go down that avenue.

The boxes of new parts are starting to build up at home I just need to get out of this dang peterbilt so I can spend some time on the pickup haha

Finally got to start working on this a little yesterday. Got the dash pulled apart installed the new dashpad was the original one on it looking at the date on the old one. Got the retrosound radio in and a new bezel put on the gauge cluster. If my Dynamat turns up today I’ll attack the carpet and seat cover. It’s neat having a project.

Doug you and your son did a great job on that interior very nice. If mine turns out half as nice as that I’ll be happy.

Worked on my tired looking door panels yesterday pretty happy with how they turned out they almost look new again. The weather has been average so still waiting for fedex to get through with my Dynamat and hogrings so no progress there yet. Still plenty to do.

Thanks!! Oh yes I’ve been through Lakefield a time or to just on the north side of I90. I work for a guy south of worthington right on the Iowa line. I’m actually quite a long way from home. I’m from the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand I spend my winter (your summer) working here. I brought the truck 12 months or so ago and have been working on it every spare minute I get. After harvet next year I should have it in a reliable enough state to do a road trip to LA and stick it in a container for New Zealand. Figured I’d get as much done to it while it’s here as everything is so readily available. This forum has been a HUGE resource to me so I’m thankful for you guys. I’m on here all the time searching and reading relative threads haha

Well I got my door inserts back from Gary today so got my door panels back in witch was the last piece of the puzzle for the interior I think it turned out pretty decent.

Hi Guys
Quick question on my front grille in particular around the headlights. Any tips on tidying that up? Is that supposed to be black or chrome? I’ve seen pictures of both. Other than that it’s in good original condition. Boxing Day down here in New Zealand I hope everyone had a great Christmas

Original 72s had black as shown below (71s had a perimeter black ring also, but 72 did not - just had what is shown below).

Thanks for pposting the pics Mark. These look redone and I'm thinking was the original paint a llittle flatter than what is shown here?. Maybe it was glossy as you show but after killing 80,000,000 bugs over the last 40 + years maybe some of the factory shine had dulled somewhat.

Greg, those were both redone, just wanted to show the masking lines primarily - these were actually painted satin black and don't look shiny in person, but I can see the the sheen slightly where direct sunlight hits the edges/corners. I'll see if I can find a better picture.

It's been awhile since I did those, but I'm almost certain it was Krylon Satin Black. I didn't prime, but I did first get all/most of the old paint off by polishing it a bit (mine didn't have much paint left... I think I just used regular Turtle Wax Chrome Polish) and then thoroughly applied/rubbed wax and grease remover to get any of the polish residue off, then prior to painting gave it a rub-down with Eastwood "Pre-" (good stuff). You don't have to get all the old paint off - I was mostly shooting for a level surface, but I did rub a good bit of it away as it was so faded it was almost falling off. You'll have to judge yours for yourself. Yours "looks" like some of the paint has kinda chipped off, so you may get ridges if you don't get rid of the old somehow. I didn't use any primer mostly because I didn't want the buildup, the rattle can stuff is a pretty heavy covering in the end (but still make sure to no-kidding spray it in several very light coats - just don't get carried away - less is more in this case I believe). I don't recommend sanding, scrubby pads, or ANYthing abrasive - the grilles have an anodized coating, and it can be damaged pretty easily with anything harsh. Krylon isn't necessarily automotive grade but it held up pretty well, probably just due to the prep work. I think SEM may also make some better quality black for exterior use, but I just used what I had on the shelf. Yes, there are a lot of grilles out there with no black paint, some prefer it that way. Factory stuff wore off over the past 40+ years on most of the untouched trucks. Freshening it up makes a world of difference in my book though.

Interesting thread and super nice truck. Regarding the black dash pad, my med. bronze metallic 72' K10 Cheyenne (not Super) with factory tilt has OEM saddle dash pad and brown OEM carpet but with black steering wheel. Am not sure if the discussion earlier in this thread applied only to Supers but I know mine is factory original with tilt and does not have a black dash pad. m
