Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Nut Case: I'm going to attempt to use the Grand Sport leaf springs I have from the donor Corvette. The spring rates are within 10lbs of what Progressive recommended for the coilovers. I have the coilovers as a backup. We shall see when it finally drives. It will be any easy swap if needed.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Thought I would spend some time on the brake lines. Progressive set up the under cab mount for a 7" vacuum booster, but I decided to go with a hydroboost so I cut out the mount and had a modified one water jetted out and moved the location a little to take advantage of the frame cut out.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
NotcHeads changed the game for me. Going to use on all lines, fuel, Tranny cooler & Hydroboost. Easy and they hold great! I used different clamps for the front crossover and put on the gravel guard over the brake line, but NotcHead everywhere else.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Yep, same here. Have run them for my fuel line (both hard line and braided) and will use for brake, everything else. Great product!

Getting the door gapping done and rounding the front corner of the door.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Been a while for updates.
Chassis is ready to have the cab mounted and trial fit everything. I had a couple renderings done to get an idea of wheels, colors and grill. Here is what I have so far:

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
looks really good.
one thing I would say is on the brake lines, if you have trouble bleeding the brakes you might try putting those circular loops in a configuration so the air can't get trapped in the loop, it would easily rise to the top through the loops and find it's way out through the master cylinder. awesome looking clean job on assembly. |

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Good call on the brake lines. I questioned that when making the lines. My buddy's shop seems to think they can power bleed it out. We shall see... I may have to turn the loops on their sides is it is an issue.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Finally kissed the cab to the chassis. Time for firewall work. I cut out the small hump and will recess it about 3".

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
whaddya got planned for the firewall? build your own, steel wheelbarrow tub cut down, buy a custom one? don't forget to leave room for the accel pedal and a comfy spot for your foot. nothin worse than a cramped calf from the pedal angle or access.
nice work, keep the pics coming |

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Well, I am working with Bob at Progressive. They made an honest mistake and my wheelbase is 110", not 114". The step in the picture is pushed up to the cab. The fender and step still need to be moved rearward another 1".
I had a good conversation with Bob and worked on putting everything on the front to make sure it all mounted together. Fit great. The side rails to the rear are just short 4". Extending the frame will be the easy part. It's the torque tube that will be the pain. It will take about a month with the turn around times on shipping to be back on pace.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Bob and I worked things out (great guy to deal with!)
I have the chassis on the frame machine. The front was just a little off so we pulled it level and now adding in some cross members. Next, we are getting the frame set up for a little lengthening in the rear.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Here we go. Bob(Progressive) sent me some matching 2"x6" frame rail so I could extend the chassis. Today we built the inner sleeves to make sure that the extension will probably be the strongest part of the frame. Tomorrow we should have this completed, then torque tube comes out to get lengthened at Gamel Street Rods.

Re: 59 Apache/C6 Corvette build
Frame extended, Torque tube off to Gamel Street Rods. So I though we would tackle the firewall. We went a little tighter on the driver side for gas pedal room...
