Also got some exhaust headers that were not really in the plan but figured what the heck why not. they fit perfect BTW...

nice score on that tailgate! I feel your pain on the ordering parts. I'm excited to see how this turns out.

I removed the two braces and media blasted them before painting them and reinstalling with new rubber and a re-built wiring harness..

Re: 1966 C-10 build

Got busy on the interior all stripped down and started in patching the crazy speaker holes and removing the gun rack..

Got all the holes patched and laid down a few layers of primer/sealer then painted the entire interior as close to original as possible.

It's been a while since I have seen an 8 track stereo in someone's vehicle. There's probably quite a few people that wouldn't know what it is. Do you have LED bulbs in your dash cluster?

Trying very hard to stick to the “Ol Skool build” that I started with Cap. 8 track falls in that category for me. I even went so far as to make a mount for the dash speaker. It holds 2- 4.25” coaxial speakers. Sounds like my old truck I drove in high school. Just couldn’t bring myself to cut holes in the doors, kick panels or anywhere else.
Yes I did the LED bulbs in the dash. I used the warm white color so they would be close to original. Just brighter with less power draw and less heat. Got them from Super bright LED.

Re: 1966 C-10 build

Got the computer fixed finally but lost most of the pictures I didn't load to the P-bucket account.. oh well we got some and the rest we can always take more

Excuse the dis-organization and some of the pics out of order..

back half of the truck being worked on.
The thought here is to clean up everything under the bed and repaint. first was removal of the bed.
I used my pressure washer with a sand blaster attachment. Worked really well..... Cut in a "C" notch, new springs, move the shocks outboard, Diff cover, inspect gears new oil, brake lines, exhaust cut outs, adjustable panhard rod, modify panhard rod mount cross member to make room for the new exhaust.

I drilled holes above the upper spring mount to make installation easier.

Cut the back edge off the crossmember to give more clearance for the exhaust to run over the axle

Its getting there!!!

Re: 1966 C-10 build

I like what you're doing. I've seen other guys do the shock relocation like you did. On the rear setup, did you use stock length rear shocks? I saw one build where I believe they said they used stock length front shocks on the rear.

What spring drop did you use on the rear?

Thanks John appreciate the kind words. Kind of embarrassed that my lil project pales in comparison to some of the projects others are working on or have completed. It is what it is and we will make the most of it and have fun no matter. Yours is looking great BTW... Congrats!

Oh yours doesn't pale in comparison. Anytime you do the work it makes it more rewarding....

I understand about the parts issues you are having from some vendors...it irritates me to no end to spend good money with folks and have them act like they are doing you a favor.

I do like the attachment you spoke about that goes on your pressure washer...do you happen to have a link for the one you use?

Re: 1966 C-10 build

Some days are better than others like any project I guess. Nice to be able to share with all you on here as I know first hand watching others and keeping up to date with everyone elses builds keeps one motivated
Yesterday and today were those days we all look forward to.. Fired up the motor and with the new oil pan gasket and the trans pan gasket and shift selector seal it would appear as though we now have a dry garage floor...

Unfortunately work will pull me away for a week or more. On my return the real fun starts. New wheels and tires and exhaust system. Like John said I am looking forward to some donuts.... Unlike John though I like the kind with sprinkles more than the rubber ones...LOL

Re: 1966 C-10 build

Actually I did find that keeping the hose on top of the attachment keeps the sand from getting water in there and messing things up. I picked up sand from Home depot. It is the medium sand that is cleaned and kiln dried. I was skeptical at first but within a minute I knew I was on to something with this little gadget. This thing stripped everything off the frame like it was nothing. After I blasted everything I washed it all down with just water out of the pressure washer. So nice to have everything stripped and clean. I then used a product called POR15 metal prep. It was unbelievable. washed it off and blew the area off with my blower to dry it. Came back a day later and everything was perfect. I cleaned it and painted it with rattle can.
