Re: Identifying a 1971 Cheyenne vs Cheyenne Super

Are the bucket seats identical in the 71 and 72 as far as pattern and scroll? I know they didn't offer cloth centers like on a bench.

The glove box emblems are also different, the emblem you show has the scroll around the word “super”, 71 supers were plain inside around the word super. Also the build date will be important for a 71 as the super option was not available until April of 71 according to the promo data.

Also to piggy back onto CG’s question, the scroll design for buckets was the same for 69-70 with a center location with design panels and the same on 71-72 with scroll along the inner portion of the bolster.

Here’s a couple pictures of the truck. Before in black primer. I asked the seller for a picture of the SPID and knew I had to save it. It sold in 2019 to a dealer on the east coast.

Thank you for that info. Now I need to check all the usual places that sell bucket seat upholstery kits. If I can get a set in Dark Olive that doesn't take forever I'm going back to buckets like my truck came with originally. If not I already have the Cheyenne Super Dark Olive hounds-tooth bench cover in a box. Either way is a win =)

If you decided to sell the bench seat cover I would be interested in buying it.

Re: Identifying a 1971 Cheyenne vs Cheyenne Super

Has the black glove box door on supers been discussed or has the mystery been solved lately? My Sierra Grande is a Flint built truck so maybe the Flint only thing is true. I recently found a 71 Custom Camper 20 4x4 truck and it is ochre with a black glove box door. It is locked and the owner is in Arizona for the winter. I have talked with his daughter and hopefully we can make a deal on it when he gets back up here. I had no idea it very well could be a Cheyenne Super until I re read Jocko's post a super thread. The info below was copied from it.

In 1971, a Z81 CustomCamper nameplate would supersede the Cheyenne Super emblems on the fender if both were ordered. In 1972, the CustomCamper nameplate was moved to the doors, so 72 was the only year you could ever see Cheyenne Super emblems and the Custom Camper script on the same truck.
