Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

Half ton 307 with standard 4 speed is unlikely as their are LOTS of 71 GMC with unmarked SPID for engine and trans but to our knowledge only 1 (yours!) seems to have a 4 speed.

Very unusual because it looks like a factory high hump floor which would not have been the case with the 3 speed.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

So the spid could be wrong.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

That seems most likely that whoever was typing it up just missed it.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

I did some research on spid errors and from what I can tell you is no one typed the spids. They used the some kind of machines to type them and distribute them for people to put on the trucks. Not shure on all the details. I can tell you there was not a person typing the spids. Errors still could happen though. Like turbo hydra matic would be spelt wrong or something like that. Here's a link to the one I read.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

Someone still typed the info into something at some point, even if the SPID was printed in a batch. Human error is what makes the most sense. But the order was processed at some point to put the 4 speed in so somewhere there was a correct work order.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

Ya I gess thats true. But if my spid is missing the 4 speed then other must be missing it to right? If they whare printed in large baches. Others would have the same mistake. At least that's what I would think.

Yup, I have a truck assembled in Fremont with the "u" instead of the "i" in turbohydramatic.

I think you are trying to apply how things work now to how things worked then. There was no database, no computer, no repository for all of the information that you are used to now. It wasn’t saved somewhere. It was inputted and outputted and used.

Like your own post right above where you left the T out of “batches”, someone working fast missed it on whatever invoice or documentation they used. They must have had some sort of double check to make sure the truck matched the order form but they chose (or missed) to ignore the SPID error.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

It's hard to say what relly happened. And how the spid where made exactly. We got an idea but that's about it. Or at least I don't know all about it.
As for my spelling I'm pritty bad at it. I never past a spelling test. Ever. If it wasn't for auto correct.
So to compare my mistake to the spids mistakes is not a good one.
Any way it's a safe bet to say my spid has an error.
How it got? Don't relly matter in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

I think the H05, 3.73 gears, triggered the 4-speed with the 307.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

That makes reasonable sense. If they 4 speed was packaged with the HO5 it wouldn't have to be on the SPID. And no error.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

I have never seen an option left off a SPID. I have seen the hump changed when a 4spd was swapped in. Quite a mystery. Normally the different ratio isn't listed and transmission option is. That is the fixed format.

Re: Trans and motor not listed on spid

So the h05 should not be on the spid?
