If its a plastic or rubber like, could it be painted? I think it would be a cool idea.

Huh never thought of using composite wood before, man that's actually a really good idea! I wonder how long it will be till car companies start doing that to their trucks to make them look old styled, but I can't wait to see pics!

weasel29gm, no I don't think that paint would stick to this. It has a semi-smooth sand finish on it. It is solid black through the whole product.

Hooter, it's not really a composite wood, it's actually plastic.

I am sure that sun light will not hurt this. The bed company uses this stuff to make stake-board sides for their flat beds and holds up great. In all honesty the've only used it on one bed floor. They just screwed it to the braces. Between expansion and the flexing of the floor, it kept popping off screw heads.

We are using the bed strips and mounting it the origional way.

That looks real good. I'd like the company name too, to find out if I can custom order 9 foot length for my 72 C-30 project. Thanks for the info, Don.

Thanks guys. I will also admit, I thought it would look good, but not this good. I had to talk like crazy to get numberoneson to go this route. He really wanted the furniture finish wood, but I knew it wouldn't work well with his situation.

Give me a couple of days, I'll take a close-up of the finish on the boards and post.

We had planned on using the stainless bed bolts exposed, but I think we are going to go the hidden head attack. It looks too clean on the test fit to let the heads show.

What did you use to cut it? I'd be scared of melting it on a table saw... maybe if you push it thru quick???

is that a pic of the stuff we used? You got a inside line on it?

lock

we used a 10" ryobi table saw with a carbide blade, absolustely no problem. then used a router to make the cut-outs for the bed strips

Damn, now I gotta take the bed of my truck! Looks great.

We use a product where I work called Komacel (by Komerling, also Komatex is same by another co.). It is a pvc sheet material, very strong and rigid. It comes in many thicknesses, colors, smooth and matte. Is that what this is by chance? We use the 1" thickness in smooth finish, has a very hard surface. 4x8 sheets run us $280 from a local plastics supply co.

I have thought of using it but was hoping for a woograined finish to be developed. Maybe I'll go ahead and go for it and use white to match my truck, looks pretty darn good on yours.

This is too funny. I had the same idea the other day and then I see this post this morning. It should hold up the same to exhaust heat as fiberglass does shouldn't it? Maybe put some heat shields over the exhaust just in case? I wish I new where to get the sizes I need for a LWB.

Here's a close-up of the finish. It is the same on both sides, 3/4" thick. It will scratch with a metal object.
