Re: 1966 custom cab short

Finally got interior painted . I’m happy with the sunlit sand paint main colour but trying to match the dash paint was a real pain . This is the 2nd dash colour a paint shop mixed up for me but it seems too yellow. In certain light it looks close but for most part it seems off

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Thanks everyone! Been a real struggle to get the painting done , between working 13 hour night shifts and one day off per week . The weather has turned cold here and crap blowing around outside . I was gonna make a make shift booth up to paint in my shop out of 2x4s and poly or buy a cheap car port tent and modify it as a booth but didnt have time to make one up .
Going to head to paint store tomorrow and try one more paint mix combo I found on here for the 66 dash colour . I was in such a hurry to get the dash and interior done and now second guessing that dash colour . I don’t have a sample anymore just some pics of ashtray and glovebox door .

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Thx! Here is my ash tray door and vents before I painted them . Was researching on here and looks like tcp global has a match for the dark fawn with texture . Might give them a try and see if they are allowed to ship paint to Canada

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the correct paint for dash from tcp global dark fawn poly au-tcp-22743 . I sprayed some satin clear over it to give a slight sheen. It looks to be a great match I’m finally happy with it lol
Now onto the easy work over the winter months

Re: 1966 custom cab short

That looks great - definitely a good call repainting the dash - especially as youd have to look at it every time you drive the truck. Enjoy the bolting it back together part :-)

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Yes had to get the right colour. Goes together with the light fawn nicely and the sms original seat cover should tie it all together

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Dash is right now and it looks great. That sunlit sand is an Acura color and is almost exactly the fawn beige original color. Good work man. The extra effort pays off.

Re: 1966 custom cab short

The dash colour looks great now! I will have to look into getting it for my 66 when the time comes. Good idea to add the satin clear to the dash. It now blends nicely with the sunlit sand colour and sheen.

Re: 1966 custom cab short

I found a T5 transmission couple weeks ago so swapped it in to replace the sm420. I almost didn’t grab it as I wanted to keep truck as original as possible but figured having the better drivability is worth it especially on the hiway commuting to work . I kept the stock 10 spline clutch so I just had to swap input shafts and a couple cuts on the lathe and thing bolts right up . Input shaft was $130 and timken bearing was $20 . Was a much cheaper alternative instead of buying a new clutch kit and adapter plate too mount it all up . Took me about an hour to swap input shafts
Big thanks to lugnutz65 , Jay on here he gave me some great information on the T5 tranny and the jeep input shaft . Thanks Jay !

Re: 1966 custom cab short

After waiting almost 1 year I finally got my seat cover from sms. Was worth the wait the cover looks really close to the original.
Also fired up the 283 the other day. Thing runs good and can barely hear it lol . It’s going to be quite the difference from my red truck with the 6 litre turbo . The way gas prices are the 283 will get used a lot

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Finally getting some work done on truck again. Last summer was pretty much a write off with deck/sunroom Reno’s and winter I was snowmobiling as much as possible .

Re: 1966 custom cab short

Doors and fenders were a lot of work . Ended up patching both outer door skins using the full patches and same with inner bottoms. The outer door patch was a real challenge too not warp . I ended up getting some help to get them straighter

Re: 1966 custom cab short

I blended in some blue on doors and fenders . I’ll wait till I have rest of truck together before I try and match the original patina on those pieces .
