Super find and for me would be a definite keeper. Love the story and the hunt is always fun. Shows DG4 exterior mirrors on the spid butthey aren't on the truck and can't see evidence of the boltholes for the DG4's.

I’ve got some documentation to share plus some hand written things from the 90’s. It’s had a partial respray sometime before 1995. I really couldn’t tell at first until I did some closer inspection. No common respray characteristics like too much texture in the paint, body panel replacement etc.

The truck is a pretty solid North Carolina truck that spent the majority of its time down there and I believe was well taken care of until semi - recently.

Thanks, this is probably my best 67-72 find to date. A close second would be my other '72 - which I paid a lot less for so it depends on how you rank them!

I've had some great luck and special finds of the mopar variety as well. Most of those I still lose sleep over having sold them for about half the price they go for now.

I have gotten the truck running in the last few weeks. Had to clean about half of a yard bag worth of acorn shells, leaves, etc from under the hood and cowl area.

Fired up and ran good. Smoked a while but eventually cleared up. It was down several quarts of trans fluid so once I sold my kidney to buy some trans fluid it moved on it's own.

I even used it to do truck stuff! Picked up a set of tires I had mounted for my Suburban.

My 3yr old daughter helped me put some rally wheels on it - my GMC centers are super nice so I had to use them. And then finally got it in the garage for the first time in a long time.

Found the missing Super glove box emblem inside the glovebox with the barrel nuts still attached so put that back on for a finishing touch.

That's VERY interesting indeed! I've never seen PA1s on anything other than a YG6,7, or 8. You have the most solid proof one could have. So are you going to find a set and stick em on there?

Soak the paint in this. Everyday put another layer on it. Leave it on for a day. Then another and another. It will bring back a shine.

Unexplained truck phenomena would be a very interesting topic. Should I start it??

So there was a mint set of PA1 wheel covers locally for $40 right before I bought the truck! Called after I bought it and they were of course gone. Don’t know if I love them enough to go through the hassle. Might if they fall into my lap but until then will stick with the rally wheels.

Pretty cool to see it came from Baltimore too. I don’t think there’s too many left around still from Baltimore, my theory is that most of them went to the north east and mid west and rusted to death. Again, that’s a hell of a find! Love seeing that you’ve got it running again and are using it.

Another thing I haven’t figured out is the 632 olive bench seat appears to be different than the few I’ve seen. The houndstooth part is much lighter.

It appears to be original but is almost two tone like the truck.

Over the winter I have slowly been taking care of a long list of issues I have found after getting the truck started and driving it around a little.

Fuel System - has an oddball 6V inline electric pump scabbed in. Tried to convert it back to mechanical and the pushrod is seized. Put in a different pump at a different location. More info to follow.

Cooling system - No thermostat and stuck clutch fan

header leaks

Ignition/timing issues - half the spark plugs were finger tight, two were falling out. The mechanical advance was locked from rust.

What I didn't show is the extensive clean up that was required after it sat in one place for 6+ years outside. Had to pull the inner fenders out to get to everything. Makes it real handy to work on with the inner fenders gone!

Driver side inner fender. The Passenger side was much worse becuause of the battery box.

The the fenders didn't rust somehow.

Wow, I am glad you're so excited about this and definitely worth the save. Projects are great for some though I'm thrilled (and super lucky) to have found a far less intensive truck...really just some love to finish off what was needed.

That is a beautiful truck! I live very close to Lewisville. I have also been by the original location of the Modern Chevrolet in Winston Salem where your truck was purchased new. Here it is back in the 60's:



And here it is present day. Modern moved to the north side of town, but this photo is taken from the exact same location as the original. Spot my old '68 parked out in front, which was also purchased new at Modern:

hi Jeff,very cool truck.it will be great to see it come back to life.i was looking at the seat too?it looks to be green/white?i'm no expert but i don't recall seeing that,the 632 olive custom cloth trim on your build sheet is exactly what's on the build sheet for my 72 Cheyenne Super but it's green/black.your truck was a customer order (i think) and mine was just for dealer stock i think.you'd think a different colour with be a different trim code?very interesting.take care.Greg

Greg, you’re right it is green and white versus green and black. That is interesting, not sure what to make of it. The green and white matches the medium olive roof very well.

I’ve almost got it back together for some spring cruising. I’ll update this at some point with some additional pictures. Need to drop the trans pan as it leaks very bad. I’ve got a shift kit that I bought maybe 10-12 years ago for my first c10 I never ended up using so looks like a good opportunity. It’s got a gasket and filter so might as well use the other stuff in the kit.

Got all the small things squared away. Installed a transmission shift kit that I bought 15 years ago and never used, installed a Holley might mite fuel pump, cleaned up the wiring and fixed some wiring issues.

Went cruising Saturday. Truck drives great. Excellent brakes, tight steering and it has 3.07 gears so it handles the freeway nicely.
Hand to do some bending and tweaking to get full throttle and secondary action. Beyond that everything worked as it should suprisingly enough.
