Question Longhorn Man, HOW do you know the weed was 2 years old??? I think someone has a slight problem here. We should maybe do an intervention. Is there something you should be telling us?? Just kidding. I used to do car stereo work, and I would find drugs and guns in cars all the time. Had a guy leave a frisbee full of weed on the driver floor when I pulled the car in. Needless to say, I didn't go near that car. Told the guy to leave and never come back. Pot-heads are sooo dumb sometimes.
I found about $10 in change, a melted part of the wire harness, and a very small piece of solid metal. That was in my old cab. It wasn't hard to cut it up. Just put the air hammer on the side and let all the bondo fall out. |

Acorns under the hood behind the headlights, a Campbells soup fridgerator magnet, leaves blowing out when I turn on the heater blower, that was kind of funny since the wife was taking stuff off the dash when I turned the heater on and the leaves blew in her face. ( Yes, she yelled at me for that too. lol) The steering wheel nut, horn cap assembly, and turn signal arm in the glovebox that wasn't there ( I swear) before I ordered the new arm. And that the cigarette lighter arcs if the lighter casing isn't tight enough on the dash when you push in the element.

I sold a ranchero and two years later recovered it from the pound.
It had a dictionary in the glove box dated 1883 Some guy by the name Edward L C Schnider from Wapakoneta Ohio (Neil Armstrong’s home town) has his name inside the front cover. The back of the bed was full of fence building materials and there were also some prescriptions for some protal creme inside the cab.

not really odd--maybe just kind of neat....found this little metal tag labelled something like "protect-o-plate" glued inside the original owner's manual in the glove box. turns out it was from a guy (who seems to have disappeared from earth) about 15 miles from where I live. seems like they sent it in with his paperwork when he bought it....i found it like two months ago and still can't track him down by phone book or post office......36 years ago, he may be long gone by now.....would love to get some original pics of the truck when it was brand new......

The weed that I found in mine was inside the door and we found it while welding on it when it started smoking. Great smelling for welding smoke.

Being an Arizona truck all I found was a bunch of old rubber parts that crumpled when I touched them. Well I guess I also found some rusty tools under the seat too.

I found some quarts of engine and transmission oil in the front part of the fender, a bunch of pennies, a comb, my turn signal lever arm, about 4 spare ignition keys, and other things I can't remember at the moment...

The only thing I found was (what amounted to) about a box of old paper clips that were mostly rusted in half......... and not one single coin. You'd think a 33 y/o truck would have a few pennies under the seat or the floor mat but there weren't any.

A mouse!
However he didn't come out until we were driving down the highway, came out the cowl and went up over the windshield! Also had a bumble bee come out of one of the A/C vents one time. Had to pull over to get him out!

The Protect-o-plate is a record of the original owner.
Way back in the day . . . . . . Before computers, when you took your vehicle in for service, they put that plate in a thing (kind of like the old credit card roller things) and made a copy for you and for the dealer for their records. It's kind of a neat thing to keep with the truck. It's really neat if you have the Protect-o-plate and the build sheet. Whatever you do . . . . Don't loose thse items! Thay are some neat history that goes along with your truck! darren

The build sheet is often either behind the cardboard gas tank cover, or behind the gas tank itself (thats a difficult place to look)
Another common place is between the seat springs and the seat foam / cushion. I can't remember if it's the top / back of the seat or bottom. Someone here may know for sure. Some folks get luckey and find them in the glove box. Sometimes under the carpet or rubber floor. Often times they are gone altogether because people find them, don't know what they are, and loose them because they don't understand their historical value. The Protect-O-Plate is almost always with the owners manual / paperwork. Darren

when i bought the truck from an impound yard i found a normal assortment is stuff in the cab, bail bonds cards a screw driver for ignition, about 4 window cranks lots of recipts to a particular liquer store, etc.
under the hood... about 3 quarts of engine oil in the front of the inner fender,a few quarts of ATF power steering fluid, brake fluid, antifreez in a prestone container, all were half full, several tools, a few pieces of concrete(to fill the rust holes). when i took apart the front clip, another bottle of brake fluid fell out. so basically, i think this guy liked the idea of a fully stocked auto store under his hood --Scott |

oddest thing i found in my 71 was there wasnt a solid piece of orignal wiring in the whole truck. Not one splice conection was soldered or had terminals of some type on them, just twisted together with either electrical tape, scotch tape or the most common was the duct tape. The kicker was the 6 inch piece of 10 gauge wire taped to a foot and a half piece of 18 gauge wire with another 6-8 inches of 10 gauge and then taped to some 14-16 gauge wire.
