The guy I normally buy my tires from seemed hesitant to put a 31X10.5 on an 8-inch rim. He's recommending a 9.5 inch tire instead. The more I think about it, the less I'm willing to let him push me towards what I don't want, dammit!
I have another option, however, that would save me a lot of money. If it will work, that is. My wife's truck (a 2001 F-150) runs 255/70/R16 tires. I've got a nice set of four tires that came off her truck sitting in the garage. If I could find a 16-inch, 6 lug wheel that would fit my truck, I'd be about $400 ahead since I need to replace my bent steel wheels anyway. Does anybody know if and/or what factory wheels might match that description? Doesn't Chevrolet make a 16-inch, 6-lug wheel for the newer trucks?

I'm pretty sure most of the z71's came with 16" sixbolts, not a big fan of the look of those wheels on our trucks, but its an option. IF I were you I'd get a set of blazer rallys and throw the nice wide trim rings on em,with some 31x10.5s, thats what i got on my truck and nothin looks better in my opinion

Don't get me wrong, if I had an extra $400 for tires plus the cost of a set of rally wheels, I'd be all over it. What I do have, however, are 4 perfectly good 16-inch tires and a truck that's leaving for Minnesota next week.
Anybody got a pic of what Chevy's doing for their 16-inch 6-lug these days?

That's how it was when I bought it over a year ago. I'd prefer a 16" with a healthy profile and rims that look like they're from the 60's or 70's. But when it comes down to dollars and sense, I'd go with straight versus bent any day.

Aaaaargh! I call the salvage yards (yeah, both of them), comb through the local shop-n-trade rag, and called the dealer, but nobody has a set of 16-inch Z71 take-off wheels for sale. Seems like every time I go looking for a part I get the same lousy story. It's either, "Nope, we don't have any of those!" or "Yeah, I've got one, but I'm not selling it."
Yet another item on the long list of reasons to get the hell outta here and back to civilization!

Hmmm... does anyone know that those wheels will actually fit? It looks like the backspacing is all wrong. Is that just an illusion? Hell of a time to start thinking about that, I know.

As far as the nissan 6 hole wheels you were refering to, the bolt pattern is the same but I don't think the centers are as big. I had one for a spare for a while, it fit on the back but wouldn't fit the front because the hub seemed to be to big.

On my 70, I ran Cooper 31X10.50's on factory 15X7 rims, then switched them over to 15X8 Wagon wheels. On my 71 I ran the same tires on the same rims until I got the new rims that are 15X8. No fit problems on 15X7 or 15X8 rims. No rubbing, or fit problems. See my avatar for how well they fill the wheel wells. Jeff.

Well, I just heard from a guy that I called and he claims the late model wheels won't work for two reasons. First, the center hole isn't big enough. Second, apparently the backspacing is wrong and the wheel will hit the tie rod. Bummer!

I've run 31x10.5 on 15x8" wheels for the past 20 years, on everything from a ford ranger to a toyota landcruiser. No problem.

After searching in vain for a set of late model wheels only to find out that they wouldn't work anyway, I think I'm going to pick up a set of 16X8 US Wheel Series 90 from Summit Racing and mount my 255/70 R16 tires on them. With center caps, shipping, and everything I'll be looking at a total of about $225. There's the added advantage that my wife's F-150 and my truck would then be running the exact same tires.
