Re: Just looked at this truck.
Tim, of course it depends on price, lol
If you can pick it up for $1k, DO IT. But if he wants more than $2k, no way. I wouldn't call that average rust, the bottom of the cab is nonexistant, the doors are gonna need emergency surgery, and that kind of bed-side rust is something I rarely see in even the most rusted trucks posted on this site. Not super common for beds to rust out that bad. Who knows what the cowl looks like. Roof maybe good.(you can see a tiny bit) Leon's gonna do what he wants no matter what me and the other member said lol I'm of the attitude that, nowadays, very few sellers let their trucks go for dirt cheap anymore, and many think they have GOLD when it is 4WD anything. On a side note, I think it's sad how "normal" it is for people to have to reconstruct most trucks back from a rusty grave.....man these trucks really rotted away. lol |

Re: Just looked at this truck.
I don't know the price is what I meant. Not knowing the price I don't see it as a hopeless case. With rust it's bubbles, dime size hole, or most the panel MIA it's all the same if you're replacing the panel. I'd like to have a 67-72 4wd I could use and not worry about. That one is exactly that! Well, 67-71 to be accurate How about having a truck that you just keep running great? No plans to ever restore. It's always been make them nicer and nicer and I'd like to have a beater now. One like this, all one faded color and generally straight. I want no chrome!

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Sorry
No, I just said 67-71 because I don't see any '72-only features on this truck. I guess it could be a '72 front end, or even chassis, with 70/71 door panels. why limit to just two trucks combined? Could be pieces from all six years! I can't knock the truck for being a combination of years in parts. My '67 short bed is built from multiple year trucks. Might not be obvious at first look but on closer inspection it will be obvious. No apologies and I'll be the first one to point that out

Thanks Donnie. I'm headed over to the salvage yard this morning so I will be driving past it twice. I am planning on stopping on my way back home to get a picture of the VIN tag and ask about the status on it. LockDoc

I saw someone outside on my way over to the salvage yard around 8am so I stopped. The owner said he gave the truck to his son who is going to try and get it running again. When I came back from the salvage yard the truck was up by the machine shed and had been washed (about 1pm) so maybe he will do something with it. I gave him my card and told him to give me a call if he needed any parts..... LockDoc

I didn't get much this time. I couldn't believe how bad the trucks had been picked over, but it has been quite a while since I have been there. I was mainly looking for the Honda door weatherstrips for the Dually project and some later volt meters to upgrade a couple of clusters. I looked for S-10 speedometers but I couldn't remember exactly which ones I needed. I am going to look it up again tonight. I didn't get any '67-'72 parts, what's left is in pretty bad shape.. Re: Just looked at this truck.
^^^Call me weird, but whenever I see trucks like that boom truck, I wonder what year/day it was those tires were mounted.
That yard had a lot of old trucks! |

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Looks like that blue C/30 has a decent GMC front bumper and brackets. Fun to get to

The outer grille wasn't all that bad either. The people at this yard are super easy to work with. The loader operator stopped twice and asked if I needed anything. I had to ask him where the Jeep vehicles were located, I needed an A/C compressor pulley.. This is a huge yard, 3000 cars & trucks. LockDoc

Re: Just looked at this truck.
how in the world does a junkyard have this many old trucks? does it specialize in classics? I can't even spot a square body at the one close to me

No, it specializes in newer stuff but they learned years ago that people are still looking for parts for the old ones. This yard is family owned and in business for 50 years. LockDoc

Re: Just looked at this truck.
I always found something that fit inside the hip pocket of my Levis. Door handle, Radio Delete plate... But now they charge you $5 just to get in.

Re: Just looked at this truck.
Sounds like my man Winfield. Last I heard he had 8,000 vehicles. Years ago he told me when the mobile car crusher people contact him with their services he says "No thanks. You can crush everybody else's so I'll be the only one with old parts".
