I do have a 4' box and pan brake as well as (2) 10' brakes (one is for sale) as well as a 10' air operated shear. I build electric signs for a living since 88 and had my own shop since 95. If I can get my 10' roper witney brake sold I want to purchase a larger throat box and pan brake. I am limited to 3" deep right now.

Nice, I would like to have a small box brake, some of the parts I fabricate are pretty crude!

A word of advice... don't cheap out if you buy one. I bought my 1st one from northern tool (chinese crap) and ended up giving it away. Spend a few dollars more for a good one. There are usually a few used one s on market place. Tennsmith, Chicago and Roper Whitney are a couple of good ones I have had experience with. My Roper 4' box and pan is listed as a 22 ga brake. I normally am bending .040 aluminum on it but it will bend 16ga steel with no issue

Picture of my box brake as well as the 10' Roper that is for sale

Re: 69 shop truck

thankfully I have what is left of a floor from a 70 I parted so the only new parts costing money will be all 4 cab supports. I was able to peel the cab corner & rocker off of the patch section and get that rear cab corner section cleaned up so I can patch the very outer edge. The front floor section I cut out will have to be made from some more 16ga. The only reason I cut a full pc for the side wall is so there will be no weld down low that would need filler skim coat. I did it so that the seams can be seam sealed or covered by the door gasket. Trying to keep bodywork to bare minimum, although there will be a couple spots on the exterior that will need some once i weld the patches in. I am not going for perfect at all. Just want to slow things down a bit and get to enjoy it some.

It is coming along nicely. That brake is a good piece of equipment to have if your doing any type of restoration work. I need to invest in one myself one day.

Thanks
I am doing more metal work on this than I told myself I would but I figure I want my feet to stay dry if I get caught driving in the rain.

I had a man stop by out of the blue this afternoon and bought my brake that was for sale so that will free back up some space in the shop. Spent most of the day today cleaning up from around the truck and got it up on stands.

Re: 69 shop truck

Finally got a chance to remove the bed today. Been too cold to work and too expensive to run the K1 heaters. Trying to find a bed in a bit better condition but needed to work on the cab corners anyway. Would like to try to get them cut and welded in tomorrow. Passenger side is original corner and still not too bad other than down real low. Drivers side has already been replaced once and needs it again.

That ain't rust. That there is crust, young man. A little more time on that and you could bottle it and sell as an iron dietary supplement
I'm just going to have to stop hating rust and embrace it. Might even make me politically correct

That work's all looking great there, Richard. Two thumbs up

Re: 69 shop truck

Went to spring Carlisle and picked up a few things to get this cab finished up. I had several different cab corners sitting here that were nowhere near close to actual body lines. I picked up some Key Parts cab corners and they look like they are pretty spot on. I was going to try to get that stuff going today but a marketplace find tied me up all day. I have been having trouble finding a decent back bed at a reasonable price so my attention jumped when I saw this on marketplace. I am going to cut all the heavy racks off that he had on it to shave some weight and mount it on the truck. it is supposed to be a shop truck type deal anyway so should fit in. The truck itself is a 75 K20 that is supposed to have a rebuilt low mileage 350/ 4spd/ 205 combo but it has been sitting for a couple years in the driveway. He also gave me new inner & outer fenders and a couple patch panels he purchased for it. Square body parts are more plentiful around here so if it does run I might just put it back together as a regular pickup. Even still has all 4 original hubcaps.

Re: 69 shop truck

Trying out some new Key parts patch panels and gotta say they are pretty good compared to what I have been using in the past. One issue I did find is the nut welded to the rear cab support is the wrong size for the seat belt bolt.

Re: 69 shop truck

Got some more time to work on the cab today. B pillar & cab corner from Key parts were spot on. Hoping the rocker fits as good. Made life a bit easier getting the door back on with the engine hoist & leveler. Had to put it back on so I can fit the rocker. Still have to put the front cab support on both sides as well as the rear support on the driver side.

Thanks guys. More than what I was planning on doing but, while I am here I might as well........

Finished up the passenger side yesterday and started back on the drivers side. On the passenger side I spliced in the front floor support and I think it ended up being a whole lot more work. Drivers side I spent the time to cut the entire thing out and replace it whole. The rear support has to be spliced regardless. I made the rear floor section earlier on and I also made a one pc section for the inner rocker area. I put all of my welding seams on both sides where I don't have to mess with any filler. Either lower moldings cover the seam or they get hid by the bed and or undercoating. Truck will never be perfect so not going to spend a lot of time on that. Still have to spot weld the front support in, finish about 6" of weld on the cab corner and one more small patch on the floor and I will be able to start getting the interior back together. Hoping to get all that done tomorrow so I can get it back on the floor and out of the way long enough to do some maintenance on my Daily driver. My 2016 GMC 2500 has a trailer brake controller issue that according to utube could be several different things so want to get in in on the concrete floor to do that.

Re: 69 shop truck

seam sealed, primed, 50ft paint to match the rest and undercoat underneath. Today hope to get the interior back in the truck and try to get it running again.

Also got a sticker shock at napa. bought 2 cans of 3m undercoat and one tube of seam sealer $125.

Re: 69 shop truck

The original seat had a bad cover on it and the mounts were cracked. I was going to put different mounts on it and just live with the cover since the drivers side was in good shape. PO had a dog that had ripped the passenger side. Anyway, I did some horse trading and ended up with this seat so it will go in the truck instead. It has aftermarket lowering brackets on it that are stationary. Will give it a try but may end up putting original sliders back on it.

Re: 69 shop truck

Threw a 5 gallon can of gas in the cab and hooked it up to the steel line to see if the fuel pump and hoses did the trick for getting the motor running. With the choke fully closed it would fire up and stay running at high idle. Barely touch the choke to open it and engine would die instantly. Found several vacuum issues and ordered a rebuild kit for the carb that is supposed to be on it. I am hoping once that is done it will run gooder I did drive it around the yard a little under its own power so at least it is a step in the right direction. Also ordered a new rubber floor mat for it to cover the floor. Hoping it is better quality than what they were a few years ago. Found a usable drivers door that I am going to attempt a reskin on. Bought a full outer skin and the new style lower inner panel from Key parts. Look very sturdy and hoping they fit as good as the cab corners did.

Re: 69 shop truck

Spent most of today working on the truck.Ripped out old seam sealer in the gutters that was popping up so I can get it in new sealer. Also changed out the thermostat housing. Saw it was leaking a little yesterday while running. Turns out it was a chrome one that someone painted orange and was supposed to have an o ring. Instead of the oring they had a paper gasket and permatex. I have never had good luck with any type of chrome engine parts so I pulled out an original, cleaned it up, painted it and installed it. Noticed the top hose had a nick in it from what appeared to look like the fan blade hit it at some point. Had a correct new one sitting here so went ahead and replaced it. Went in the back room and searched the fan shrouds on the shelf and was able to come up with the correct one so i put that on. I had a used 6 blade clutch fan I was going to put on but after putting it on I found the clutch must have a bad bearing. Took it back off and put the original blade back on for now.
