I came up with a few modifications and put Jim and Mark to the test and they came through everytime! The interior turned out just absolutely beautiful and you will see people at car shows walk up to the truck like they would anyother vehicle at a car show and then when they see the interior it's like... WOW! Oldman3 (Jim), I'm honored that you agreed to this build and I will forever be greatful for it and likewise I thank your son Mark for all the beautiful work he did on the truck as well! I'm glad to see that he is following your footsteps and I look forward to his future builds as well as yours! Thanks!

Hey Jimbo,

Ya that interior is awesome, just blows me away. Not heavily modifying the original lwb step configuration impressed me too, sorta like paddling upstream in the river of custom trucks, so to speak. You have a unique vehicle built by craftsmen; lucky you.

I have looked at Jim's other build. It's quite impressive as well.

Have fun & thanks for giving us a few "remarks by the owner".

First I want to say thanks for your service, from an old vet. Thank you for the compliments. Any ideals I used you are more than welcome to STEAL, some of them have been done before by others. I am very interested in how you did the leather. Just fabric glue sprayed on the plastic then the leather laid overtop? Did you put padding underneath?

What about the snap on panels? I know you gave us the name of the actual clips you used, but what about the places where they clipped in that were mounting the console?

Finally (for now... ) What did you use for the fabric when doing the fiberglassing?

Josh, will try to answer your questions.

A. It's not fabric glue it's Contact Cement by Weldwood (get it at local lumber yard, used for laminate counter tops). See Page 16 post #395 for picture of the can.

B. You are correct on the ABS (plastic) panels. Spray glue on the panel and the leather, let it tack up (about 5 to 8 mins) then put leather on and smooth out. No padding on the plastic panels (you can if you want, but I didn't). On the wood panels I made, I put 1/8" closed cell foam. You can get it at most uphostery or fabic stores that sell material.

C. Snap on panels. Page 17 post #406 shows the metal pieces I attached to the side of console. I put this pic together real quick to explain:

1. Hole in wood for panel clip to clear (rep. for console).
2. 18 gauge metal with 5/16" hole for clip and two 1/8" holes for to pop rivets, or screws to hold in place.
3. pop rivets
4. First panel with clip in place.
5. Second panel, with material removed on back side, so it lays flat when put over the clip. Then glue and stapled to form 1/4" panel.

Take a look at my signature at bottom and go to "my build thread" (50 chevy pickup) and look at pages 17 and 18. It shows me making the interior for the top. This should help a lot.

D. For the fiberglass you can use the mat fiberglass or the woven fiberglass. Mat gives you more strength ( I manely use this). I usually use at least 2 layers. I mix up the resin, brush on the wood, install mat, coat with resin, remove all air bubbles. I let mine sit overnight and then sand to break surface, and put on 2nd coat of mat. Some people put the second coat of mat on right away, that's up to you.
