Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
well, i was going to blast off the '59 elky next, have 1 t-case left, but somehow i lost half of it & cant find it.....so i though about redoing the '55 like LS's, cause his is a 2 wheeler, but i really like the black & orange (and 4x4...) so i haft to order stuff, which really bites with our buck only worth $.70....hoping it would hurry up & come up....but in the meantime, wife decided for me. left my ship on the kitchen table for a month while doing the 'vair. she did not like eating around my rigging.... so i been farting around with it & finally managed to get the "standing rigging" done. all the standing rigging is what basically holds up the masts & keeps the ship together. the sailing rigging is next & it's a whopper... first big ship i ever built, pretty much guarantee be the last big ship i build... gained a whole new kind of respect for people who build these things. tedious, tiny knots, frustration (trimming the excess off the knots & accidently end up cutting the line you just spent an hr on getting the dam thing where it needed to be.....) anyways, here's where it stands |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
i been having knot nitemares for the last month Dale......
got another page of inst done. most of the month and it dont look a whole lot different. the back of the ship is kinda plain, but a spanker (???) sail, 2 jollyboats, & a cutter will soon be going back there. i really need to take a break from this, so i said the heck with it (crappy dollar and all) got a doz axles, half a doz t-cases, brake rotors, some other junk, and best of all, the '57 chevy panel ordered online then i went down to the new toy store in town (NOTHING electronic!!!) & pre-ordered 3 of the re-issue of the '84 gmc.....crewcab dually is a comin' (but not for anywhere between 4-6 weeks, poss more.....but got a deal for buying 3) |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
The ship looks great. Besides knot nightmares I bet you get sore fingers lol. I think the the Elkie is going to look good with any of those wheels. We've had our own nightmares here. Ihad my sons friend paint my girlfriends 93 pace truck. We waited and waited for him to cut and buff it. I put the truck together while we waited. Finally I cut and buffed it and it shined like a new jewel inthe garage. Last Sunday backed it out to wash the dust and clean th dust out of the jambs etc. When the sun hit it I could see where he didn't get enough black on it. I can see the sealer all over it. Plenty of clear but not base coat. I'm taking apart now so It can be painted again!! Nightmare I tell ya

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
jeez! thats a bummer Dale...
foreseeing more sanding in your future.... hey if he wants, my crew needs paint....and i aint picky trying to get some stuff done on the elky, but really be needing my parts started the int, guess the color... have'nt done much to it ....yet, just made a turn signal lever, and the shifters whacked off all the 2wd stuff & added more frame for the leafs. went back to the impala & robbed it of it's 409, just painted |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
body on this thing is poor, all lumpy & mis-aligned. check out the doors, nothing level or even
after a couple rounds with the sandpaper. also took off the chrome trim on the edge of the batwings, & the door handles. i left the side trim & the chrome band around the inside of the box, just dont want my 4by festooned with lots of chrome....got them awesome Fireball door handles for it |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
still waiting for parts, did what i could with the elky. int is pretty much done, did'nt even notice the intake on the 409 is tri-carb, took the engine apart, now it's in the dot 3. going 4bbl & a custom air cleaner & a couple other changes (tell i'm bored??....even did some more knot tying, i'm this close>< from finishing pg 3)
and yahoo, lookie what showed up today.... so....tempting....must.....start.....this.....no, i'll put this away for as long as i can stand it, & finish the elky first. been a real pia to find some real good tall skinny luggers, them BF's i dont think are going to cut it, plus this thing is THICK, twice as fat as the stock model, the roof is on this thing is 4 mms! it sure does feel nice & hefty though |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Ive been busy sand the girlfriends truck and fixing some dents he skipped over. Sunday morning I woke up to an oak tree across the front of my V3500. It's been interesting here. The Elkie is looking great. The panel is going to be cool. You're not going to need to worry about it heat warping. They put a lot of material in that thing. Is it too late for you to join the Boy Scouts? You are a knot expert now! LOL

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
sounds like murphy has decided to pay you a visit Dale!...lol
clean up one thing and bam! here comes another... well i got some more junk in the mail yesterday, but after what happened at work....did'nt feel much like doing much some axles & t-cases some more door handles & a set of dually rims. also traded the corvair motor for some d-shafts & chevy rims round 2 with the 409. just out of the dot 3. going red & black instead of all red. tried some new "cast iron" paint on the intake. air cleaner is a shaved '64 truck flipped upside down to fit a chrome lid i had. started putting together some axles, and the final rims & tires. no, it's not the krawlers... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
had planned on using these rims & the krawlers
then wife sprung this on me this afternoon. how or where she got it.....i have some on pre-order & there not here yet sooo, the rims & tires from the "deserter" are migrating on to the elky (i have no other rims that fit these tires) & these steelies with the krawlers are going on the panel. going to see if i can cut the centers out of the stock cameo hubcaps for the steelies. dont that just look so sexy? and here will be my crewcab dually. these tires & rims will go on the '55, & i'll prolly order some swamps for the crew dually. bilt the blue truck late '90's, actually pretty hurtin' by todays standards. when my pre-orders come in, i can make a much better shortbox. did'nt i once say something 'bout my build plans going down the toilet? |

liking round 2 with the 409 better. them "W" valve covers look nicer standing out i think. got some susp work done too. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Yep, I have always loved the look of the W block valve covers. They're a good looking motor. Suspension is looking great as usual. I just got home from the cabin. Weather was terrible but I enjoyed myself anyway.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
just painted, hoping to finish up over the weekend. not sure about the tonno, see what it looks like all together scratched a headliner, tried to give it a '50's feel been thinning down the panel a bit, sure is hefty. dr side is done, pass is not. the calipers are how fat the roof is! top heavy.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I love the red and white. It looks great and the headliner is a nice touch too. I'm not sure about the tonno either. As heavy as the panel is you wont have a heat warping problem...lol
