Oh yeah I think your setup here is going to work no problem, I didn't mean to question your vent height. And that sucks you tore a ligament man, that is not fun...

I have been reading through your thread for the last week on and off and I just finished. This truck is going to be VERY sharp looking! Quite excited to see it all come together. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you. Hope it turns out half as nice as the one you just wrapped up.

I didn't take it like that at all. Just hoping it works.

Thanks for taking a look at it. The positive comments and questions really do help keep these things moving..at least for me.

It is fun. Thankful in some ways that the body shop is taking so long as it has given me the time to really go over everything twice and make sure it is right. Trying to make sure no hose, fitting, etc. rubs on anything. I'm sure I'll miss something.

My son comes home from college this next week. I hope he gets to see the paint go on, but we will see.

Truck is looking amazing. I ran my fuel tank vent up inside of the truck bed by the wheel well. It's totally concealed and so far seems to work fine.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Ran by the shop last night. Cab is finally wrapping up on the outside. Working on drip rails and the sealer. I'm not sure what product they used, but they are turning out very smooth and clean. They are going to hit the inside of the cab this week and we should be about ready for paint. Doors turned out really nice.

They did shoot some small parts and I think the color is going to be sharp. Fingers crossed it is home by the end of the month.

Man, I hear you. It is funny in some ways. The guy doing the majority of the work is a little nervous because he knows the shop owner and I have been childhood friends forever. He told me that John (my friend) told him, "This guy has been my friend forever and if his truck isn't right I'm going to have to hear about it forever!" So, he is really focused on all the little details. It makes it slow, but hopefully it turns out nice. The paint is the easy part.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Here is a little sample of the color next to the red. Of course when you size these pictures down you don't get the full appreciation of the color, but I think it will be unique and eye catching (sunglasses necessary).

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Stopped by the upholstery shop to drop off the visors for recovering and they were working on my door panels. These pictures leave a little to the imagination, but I think they are going to look great.

Update on paint is that the inside of the cab is going into paint today or tomorrow!! It is getting close now.

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

PAINT!!! They shot the interior and underside of the hood last night. I found a couple spots on the top of the dash they are going to correct, but I like the color. These pictures show it about as dark as it gets and when the light hits it is more of a brilliant silver. The remainder is scheduled for late next week, so it is finally feeling like I will have a truck back soon.

Now we're talking. What did you put between the hood braces and the skin?

I used the foam or rubber pads like the stock ones. We discussed seam sealing them after putting them in, but opted to not do that due to the size of the gap.

I seam-sealed the hood on my 71 project. I hope I don't regret it. Truck is looking amazing!

Re: 1971 Stepside LS Build

Not much good news to post. Went out to see the painted interior and it all got sanded back down to correct things I didn't like. They will love me by the time this is over

Took a quick trip to KC on Friday and picked up my re-chromed vent window pieces. They turned out great. Now to fight the rivets. I did put the new glass in the chrome channels. That was pretty easy once I got all the butyl off everything.

Supposed to hit the booth on Saturday. Fingers crossed.
