Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
It got good and cold here this past week. Going into single digits tonight. Roads have been salted from some little snows, too. So the other day I put the '72 up on jack stands, put some Startron in mixed with some fuel, and put a tarp over the cab. I started it up and ran it a good while, too. It had been a few weeks since I drove it. I'll start it a few times over the winter and basically just wait a couple few months to drive it again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I have been converting my 71 to four-speed. Yesterday I put the transmission and transfer case into the truck, just stuck the cherry picker in thru the passenger door and lifted the whole thing up and into position as a single unit.

Yesterday New Years Eve. Putting the rebuilt 402 back in my son's 72 GMC. extended bed Sierra Grande. Like a longhorn is guess. Hope to get it started today. Lots left to do. But went from this to this.

Worked on the "hoop" that'll run through the core support for the flip forward hood mod. Been a lot of brain scratching on this one.

Remember : the doors from those big old Farm trucks are way above the salty roads so are often the best ones available .
Just weld up the multitude of mirror holes and you're off to the races .

Replaced the custom "small back window" with a full size rear slider in the 72 Cheyenne and replaced the broken front windshield.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
They don’t sound too bad. The cab is small. So I don’t think I need a amp. I think they’ll be OK for me. Some people like to have the bump and tump. But I am happy with this sound. I am old school. From 8 track area. LOL. But I have not driven it on the road yet. Still under construction.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Well, I didn't actually "do" it to my truck, but rather "for" it. This is the closet-raid truck cover. It took most of a Saturday at the sewing machine (and back and forth to the shop for each fitment). It is two pieces, one for the cab and one for the bed. The pant's pockets hanging from the dark blue cover on the bed sides are for weights to help keep the bed cover from sagging in and raising up. Probably use lead pellets or the like tied off in a sock.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Thanks Painter...Well, it cost me some time and I did have to spend $20 at the Salvation Army for the number of sheets/blankets that my wife wouldn't let me scrounge from the closet.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I installed my Christmas present. A Lares 1075 steering box with the 3 1/4 lock to lock turn.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
The original box on my 72 had 4 1/4 turn lock to lock The lares box has 3 1/4 turn. It was a bolt in part with a new rag joint. My old box leaked and I wanted a quicker ratio.

Thanx, I can seriously dig getting rid of a leaky old loose steering box but i drive on the open highways at speed, isn't this likely to cause overturning if/when I get cut off again and have to make an emergency manouver ? .
New steering box sounds really tasty I must say .
