Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Here's my freshly painted 1971 2wd blazer rolling on 338's with a 1" rotor in the front... A big thanks goes out to Lolife99 for informing us on the 1" rotors!!!!
I purchased a set of belltech's 3" drop spindles for 1" rotors and it fits great.

My sizes are 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 in rear..
I upgraded all the ball joints and tie rods to the 73-87 also with a ART front end bag kit and ART arms.. ( cool ride )
I ended up getting a rear coolride kit also... very nice stuff wirth the $$ IMO..

Here's a couple of Now and before tear down pics..

Wow!
That chassis is beautiful!
Zammer did you have to cut the end of the spindle down?
Or grind a radius on the edge of the front rotor hub to get the caps to clear?

Do you have a build thread on your blazer?

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Hey thanks Lolife, I wasn't planning on going right down to the frame but... i'm pretty picky about stuff - a bit much sometimes, but i'm glad i ended up there as it turned out good and its nice bolting on stuff to a fresh frame
..
No, i didn't have to cut the end of the spindle down at all.. are some guys needing to do this?

I don't have a build thread but i was thinking of getting one going, I finally figured out how to post pics properly..

I'm just trying to clarify this with the 1" specific spindles.
I think the guys with 1.25" specific spindles are required to do this.
Did you grind on the rotor hub at all?

nope, i haven't had to grind the rotor hub at all yet... I would doubt i need to at all..
Bearings and dust caps went on good and the wheel bolted onto the rotor fine..

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Been looking for wheels and found this thread today, I guess I need to take the
Coy's off so I can see if the McGaughy's 13" brake floating hub will be an issue?
I really want to put the Coy's back on the 81 and get these for the 72 so I am
in for a group deal hands down. Zammer do the 10's fit well on the Blazer rear?

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

yeah the 338's seem to fit good in the back on the blazer.. I haven't had the body back on yet to see if i need to put spacers in or not.. I have to do some rear fender work anyways so i was going to widen them if needed..
I will measure the rear tires end to end for you when i get home from work tonight.. then maybe you can compare track widths..
your blazer chassis looks great! looks like near the same gloss as mine.
sweet.

Hey Craig,...
The only problem I see with the 20x10's is they only come in 6.25" backspace.

I don't know what BS you're running on those 22x9 Coys,... but I'm pretty sure you will need a spacer to put these Boss 338 20x10's on the rear of your blazer.

I wonder why they don't offer a 5" BS. Seems like that would be the most common...

I think the 6.25" BS is perfect for the 88-98 trucks.
I'm not really sure what Boss was thinking.
Seems like they design a wheel and only offer one backspace per design.

Your right, mine are perfect, any less they would rub the lip on the bed side, any more and they might pose a problem with tire rub on the leafsprings.
Here is how i look at the whole situation, these are AMERICAN made wheels, quality is great, and price cant be beat. I bought these knowing i would need a spacer to make them fit on the front, but once you see a set in person, you will want a set.

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Ok,... a little update from me.
I wanted to post pics of my 338's mounted.

I hammered the dust cap flat, just in case it hit.
(now I don't think I would have had to).
The clips on the plastic Boss wheel center cap still needed a sliight trim.
The picture shows all of them trimmed except one.
(To show how little needs to be removed)

Everything fit fine after that.
I did put a small dab of silcone on each clip, just for the heck of it.
All of this trouble seems worth it (to me) to get cheap wheels,... but it's far from a "bolt on" wheel.

Another issue I recently found,... is the recessed holes for the lug nuts are really small.
They may be fine for a 7/16" lug nut,... but the 1/2" lug nuts required for our trucks,... seem to make it really tight getting a socket inside the hole.
I used a (3/8 drive) 13/16" socket and it was still hard to get the lugs inside the recessed holes.

LoLife99... looks pretty sweet.... Man i love these wheels..

Mrhino... My post #526 on the 338 wheels/tires I went with this size tires:

245/40-20 Falken FK 452 HP _ Front
275/35-20 Falken FK 452 HP _ Rear

They have a very close Diameter... The 275 wide tire is pretty sick.

hope this helps

love these wheels so worth a little extra work.
Can anyone please measure total outside width of thier rear wheels, I think I got too big of a real tire. 315/35/20...12" wide. worried it will not tuck if laid out??? I got 73" total width. is that cool?

Ronm909,... the width will depend on which rearend you have.
67-70?
71-72?
73-87?

I think those 315's look perfect on there.
I'm running a 295/40-20 on the rear.
