Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Every once in awhile you just get this feeling something neat is going to surprise you today. Yesterday was that day. I spotted this truck driving in to a car show yesterday. 10,340 miles, original black paint, 1966 short stepside. This is the third documented 1966 I've seen with 16 inch wheels. Rarely found in black.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Definitely qualifies for this category, thanks for exposing this awesome find 60-66. Interesting to see the white painted rear bumper, most bumpers of this style were painted silver on the West Coast. These type of bumpers usually get removed when these trucks hit the show circuit ( the beige gem top '65 had evidence of this ). IMO, this C 10 would look much better without the raised white letter "low profile" 16" radials, a set of black wall tall and skinny 215-85-16s would be the cats meow.

Neat-o! How did the engine fare? And the bed wood?

Funny you mention that Factory stock, this was enough to get the truck put into a different category at this show. It was a rat rod show but anything stock and old was allowed, white walls were fine but not raised letters.

Ha ! you bet Wally , had to ask. Owner I don't think will ever sell. Been in the family since new.

I didn't get pictures ! Was to busy drooling I guess. Truck really needs a good detailing. Owner did the mechanical's and washed it , then I spotted some recent modifications like an incorrect aftermarket RH mirror and one or two small details. Engine paint was about 50% and wood was nice though.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Per Factorystock's request, here's the '66 Custom Camper photo I ran across online. It appears to be all-original (judging by the paint wear on the mirrors) with the correct lock ring wheels.... a rare sight.

Thanks for posting up that black truck. I wondered how a base trim level black truck would look with the white grill/bumpers. Think I'll be painting my '64 like it.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Just read about this one a gentleman on the '60-66 Chevy Trucks Facebook group came across. He said he waited outside the grocery store just to meet the owner. It was bought in '63, always garaged, & has about 13,000 original miles.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Heres another one fresh out of the building. Bought this in 2008 . Doing a little re arranging in the building to fit more trucks ! 1960 C30 . Hazard flasher, windshield washers, power brakes, 283 , all 6 original BF Goodrich Silvertown tires still have the nubs on them. Story was it was owned by a John Deere dealer in New York. Owner was in his 90s and had passed in 2007.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Very interesting. Proof that low miles does not always equate to pristine condition. In this case, pictures DON'T tell the story! Engine paint for instance gives the impression of much more use than a scant 500 times around on the mile counter. And what's up with that graham cracker floor mat? I've seen flawless mats in 75K mile trucks. ?

The pics do tell a lot to go with VERY low miles ..... paint under ignition switch ,seat, mirror arms, mud flaps, tires, heater hoses/clamps batt cables, nothing molested, ECT...

Beautiful, I love that the hazards still have the little tags and it has the original key chain. What's with that big square washer bottle? I've never seen one like that before

Love this C30, wonder if it had John Deere on the doors at one point.

Thanks for the positive comments Bruce !? Actually , I feel it has quite a bit of its original paint left on the engine. This truck is from Auburn NY, not perfect dry Arizona or western states. I have NOS valve covers in boxes that the paint is peeling. As for the mat, you cant even move it without it breaking .Like to know why they dry out? I have a near perfect suburban rear mat doing the same thing , Im afraid to remove it. The truck is what it is , they cant all be "perfect".

1959 was the last year for the glass jar washer, 1960-1962 used this style in passenger cars and trucks. I think classicGMC had an NOS one in the for sale section. Then they switched to the more common washer bottle around 63-64.

Pretty sure it did or something close , wish it was still there .

Thanks Wally , if this one was a dump bed like the 64 is I might consider that . PS the 4x4 panel is up by the metal man Steve.

Great find. If it was perfect we would know Chevrolet didn't build it. Trucks were made to beat up.

Oops! Sorry Jon, that's not how I meant my comments to come across. I was just saying that even an extremely low mile truck can show a surprising amount of less than perfect cosmetics. The floor mat especially in this case. It's puzzling to see some mats endure very well, and then some disintegrate with no miles on them.
My mouth often tastes like a shoe. Hmmm.

Re: most original 60-66 truck in existence?

Excellent addition to this thread 60-66. This is what this thread is all about, most original and best preserved. IMO, we want a chance see them the way they looked in the prime of their life, before the repaints, before the wheel change, before the engine change, before the reupholstry. In other words, a visual history lesson.
