Putting my old truck to work today. Picked up materials to redo the deck on the back of my house. 24 16ft Trex boards on the rack - no problem!

Today I started a project that has been on my list for a little while - electric fans. The engine temp always stays cool while driving, but it gets warm in the summer sitting at idle for any length of time. This should fix that.

Cost for everything was about $600 with coupons, so this is not a cheap upgrade.

Parts:
- Maradyne Jetstreme 2 (MJS26K) dual electric fans
- Maradyne 185° fan controller wiring harness (MFA102)
- Jegs Jetstreme mounting brackets (555-52117)
- Vintage Air trinary switch (11086-VUS)
- Tuff Stuff 100amp alternator (7127D12)

As you can see in the photo below, the previous owner cut the bottom half of the shroud off to make clearance for the body lift. And yes, I know a new shroud might have solved the problem.

I got the fans installed today and started on the wiring. It took two sets of brackets - I cut the end off of one set and used them as spacers so that the shroud would fit properly against the radiator. The bottom brackets just sit on top of the frame. I might drill and attach them to the bottom of the core support, but it seems really secure as is. The top of the fans are attached with 1/4-20 clip nuts to the top radiator brackets.

There's a stupid amount of room between the engine and radiator now. I like it.

I finished up the fan wiring, but the fans didn't kick on when I tested it. I discovered the inline fuse for the fan relay was blown, so I replaced the fuse and the fans came on. I am letting the engine cool off a little then I will test it again.

The alternator that I ordered was not in stock, so I am still waiting on that.

And like I said yesterday, the space between the engine and radiator is huge.

It immediately blew another fuse.

After researching, I found in fine print on page 13 of a Maradyne sales brochure that the Jetstreme 2 (dual fan) requires a dual fan adapter harness (MFA111). It's a second relay for the second fan. I'll get that ordered and report back here when I have a chance to get it installed.

Today I installed the second fan relay. Credit goes to Maradyne for making it easy to connect to the first relay. Now both fans kick on without blowing fuses when I ground the sensor wire. I also swapped the thermostat housing with an adjustable one to make a little clearance for the sensor.

The new 100amp alternator is here, and I ordered a new alternator bracket which shipped today. I'll put a fresh belt on too.

I may have opened a can of worms.

Moving the upper radiator hose caused a leak. So it is off to the radiator shop.

And the Ebay seller made a label but didn't ship my alternator bracket. Probably didn't even have the part.

Ace Radiator here in town was fast to fix my radiator! $79 is a lot better than a new radiator.

It's all back together with a new lower radiator hose. I also used up the old can of engine degreaser that I had in my shed.

Still waiting on Ebay alternator bracket.

It is super frustrating that this factory alternator bracket does not adjust correctly. With the new alternator the belt is super loose adjusted all the way to the end of the bracket. I don't understand why at all, and I was mocked on Facebook for asking the question.

UPS finally has the Ebay bracket I ordered. Saying Monday.

The Ebay alternator bracket showed up today, but the tension rod is too long to attach to the bracket bolt and too short to reach the intake. I ordered a shorter tension rod from Amazon that should arrive tomorrow.

Changing the alternator is turning out to be more of a challenge than the electric fans.

It works!

The shorter tension rod is still almost too long, but it works. I think the bracket is ugly, but it works.

The fans kick on and off as necessary, the engine stays cool, and the battery charges.

And I got some cheap floormats.
