This is what Reddit said.
The square spot in the center of the cupholder in a Honda Civic can be used for customizing how the space is configured. It can also be used for eye drops (contacts), ChapStick, or other small items. However, it is not deep enough to keep a bottle from moving around. If you want a cup holder for bigger cups, you may need to look for a separate insert.

If the vehicle doesn't have a key to start, it's more than likely to put the FOB in when the FOB battery is dead. The wife's Tahoe has a little box like that and somehow it picks up the signal from the dead FOB to start the engine.

A bottle of water fits perfect in it too. It doesn't flop around like in the cup holder.
