My '59 Apache

Maybe I'd just better stick with the original equipment eh? The site that I'm on for the TR~ 6-pack.org are die hards when it comes to their TR's! I had enough fun putting a V8 in my 59 apache! lol Right now I'm learning about the rear axle bearing, which can be a pain if let go, which I think one or both on this TR is/are not good judging by the growl when heading down the road at about 40mph Nothing we can't handle right? Ya'll helped me out on my truck, the other site will see me through as well

When I put the sbc into the TR4 we used a narrowed mustang rear axle. Also I made it an auto because there was not a lot of room for 3 pedals and linkage.

This morning, everything finally showed up! Patrick, the man who ordered all the stuff had gone on vacation; kind of messed things up. So, he himself installed the wheels/tires himself, and was very apologetic. That's OK!

I removed the Tacoma seat belts and installed the one from Juliano's! They're really nice! I had the holes already so installation was easy enough. Now I just need to figure out a handbar for Gary to hang on to while I'm driving~ He does that whenever I drive! lol




I'm very pleased with the setup! I'm ready for the Nifty50ees this upcoming weekend!

What is the overall width of those seats, and does the steering column center on the driver seat? They look MUCH more comfy than mine!
I remember back in your post somewhere that your seat wasn't exactly what you thought you wanted, did they work out after all, or are these different?

I love compliments! Thank you all so much! Ya'll are part of my restoration~ I didn't do it "alone!"

Now JR, as for the seats, I'll have to go out there and measure the width. The steering column doesn't match up to the center of the seat perfectly but the look and the comfort level of the seat make the ride much better, so I can put up with it being a little off. It has some cush to it which seems to absorb some of the bumps as well as my suspension. Plus the center console comes down for drinks and an arm rest, another plus! It came out of a 2002 2nd row Tahoe. You know, when I bought it, I thought it was Tan, I must be partially color blind! lol
But again, I'll get a measurement for you~

JR, the seat width is 56", doesn't leave a whole lot of room in there does it!

Denee, I have really enjoyed reading over your build, twice, and just want to tell you how much I admire your work and determination. Your truck looks great and you should be proud. I just bought a 51 chev PU, and am looking forward to working on it. I also have a 72 chevelle that we cruise around in now. Keep posting any little thing you do to the truck and remind your husband every day how lucky he is, but he probably knows that!

Wow~ cffisher, I like being called "007!" I do so appreciate the wonderful compliments! If you noticed, I asked a lot of questions, and do a lot of research(which doesn't always pan out I've found!). Thank you!

Now vht~you read my build twice? You know I even had to go back and look at my build thread! It's like watching someone else when reading my own build thread! My husband is extra ordinarily pleased with me and my work, but couldn't have done it without his love and support, and that goes for the good folks here! I really had plenty of help and made great friends along the way.

obviously me, a little upset when I cranked my engine to go to the Nifty50ees and the engine had a miss~! something I need to take care of tomorrow I hope! I'll be back!

Diggin' the TA's, great old school look to match the truck. Here is a set of L70's without the white letters we had on the Nova in 73, biggest street tire you could get at that time. One of the scariest cars I ever drove, but it made us a lot of money in the Ft. Hood / Waco area.

Mid 11's at 125 or so on the street. Was geared for street racing. 1st and 2nd came up real fast, hit fourth at about 95 on the speedo, would chirp the tires. Short and light 2dr post was pretty squirley out of the hole but settled down at speed. This was before NOS, just ran on race gas. That was fun times, rebuilding engines in the trailer living room....

Howdy!
I know some of you know I've been battling my rear end! no, not that rear end! lol I kept looking and looking for a rear end for my truck. I even went to Dave Chapman's shop by invitation, The Hollister Road company, and looked upon his 2000 ZR2 S10 rear that's going in a project/customers truck, but the gearing wasn't right for me. I have a TH350 and want lower rpms at highway speeds.

Dave mentioned about we could overhaul my axle, he has the know how~ I went home and looked again, so I got the spur to take my rear axle down to the nut! that's right, I took that rear end all apart looking for what's wrong, then I loaded the lighter stuff and headed over to Dave's place~ he examined it, got on his computer, and compared prices on new everything~ Rock Auto had the best price for a 308 gearing, and I ordered it all, about 325.oo total, plus Dave had a coupon for 15 bucks off!

I'm fortunate to have him close by, he has a wealth of knowledge and a treat for me to be around one of my peers! So when all the stuff arrives, then Dave and I will get this part back together! It will be all clean, so no dirty fingernails!

One other thing I didn't do, but really didn't realize, the axle perches on the axle I have are 42.5", Dave had one I could compare, and it's 41.5"! I know it's only an inch, but when I installed this rear end the other day(weeks ago), I had to use my porta power to spread the springs apart so the perch pins would match the leaf springs! I'm going to fix that and put the perches where they belong!
So, Dave Chapman saves the day again!

Most of the bearings were pitted badly, and the spider gears didn't look very good either. The Ring and pinion were definitely questionable. The price for a new ring and Pinion was very reasonable, so I ordered those too!

Looking at the spider cage it looks like the pinion got into it at some time or another.
When I started mine I bought a 79 Camaro for parts. I used the front sus and it had a 308 possi dif in it . With the wheels and tires from the Camaro it fit just by moving the spring pads. The engine was bad in the Camaro but I am not going to use it anyway.

Yeah Rich, that marring resulted from my stupidpidity! I didn't tighten the pinion nut enough when I replaced the pinion seal and yoke. Hopefully that won't happen again!
