Re: 73-87 4x4s

Bradley...I had just come across their site not long ago, then saw those in the thread and someone asking about them. Nice bumpers but too pricey for me. I'll make my own. They will be 2 x 6 tube w/o all that angular stuff underneath. A lot less massive.

I can just see a Banks Sidewinder Turbo kit, Bushwacker cutout flares and a NV4500 swap for that Jimmy of yours. Wait, is that a 9.5 semi-float rear axle in there? If so….the deal is off.
Yeah, beats a 12-bolt tho'. I guess you wouldn't want the Gov-Loc either . I have an open full-floater for it,just did the straight swap from the Suburban for now with components I know the history on. Plans would include a locker and going over for the full-floater and a Dana44 front that I have a Trac-Loc for. I just wanted to keep it simple and get it all under there for now. I have the 4L80E/NP241 from the Suburban I'll probably swap but an NV4500 would be great. It needs a roll bar, winch, and bumpers made to be where I really want it. I'll have to get some better pictures with it in some action. These are at my house and by the river where I had a job to estimate.

Re: 73-87 4x4s

I agree Tim, $2K for a few pieces of steel? Spend a few hours making a design, then have a local welder weld the pieces together if you cant weld.

Re: 73-87 4x4s

I would much rather buy one of these less than half the price http://tacticalarmorgroup.com/TAGSto...3/Default.aspx and they also make rear bumpers with an optional tire carrier

Re: 73-87 4x4s

I believe Medusa was splashed with hot liquid chrome and immediately threw up from the shock then Boreas(Greek god of north wind)froze her there with her puke. Which was then found near the frozen Mammoth still eating. Which was bought by the man who owns this truck. The truck's name is Cold Ralph.

Like my explanation?

Notice the mudflaps say "Freaky Freudian Fantasy" and "Big Bad Brutish Beast" and "Trick Tuff Turfstomping Toy Truck" on the tailgate. Something about "Macho" on the bumper, next to the chain. Im guessing the junk in the box and on top of the cab, are what used to be the horns from some longhorn cattle, that this joker had the time to glue mirrored glass to.

Re: 73-87 4x4s

this is my 79 gmc jimmy, when i got it...

umm, i hated these...

so i fixed...
33 1250 15 wrangler dura tracks, and a VERY TEMPERARY 3 inch block lift all around... even front, yes i know, stupid.

then i got a "four inch lift" from rough country, they sent 6 inch springs tho...
so i had a lean,

fixed that by rearching rear springs, and adding a leaf, that with 3 inch blocks puts it good. =]

Re: 73-87 4x4s

just picked up this 77 shortbox. 90k original miles. 350ci/th350/np203/3.73. Truck has original paint but is faded. No real rust to speak of other than a little on passenger side fender behind tire. Floors, corners, rockers, and box is super nice. Right now it has 33/12.50's with no lift. I ordered a 4 inch lift and bought a used set of 35's for now... enjoy

Re: 73-87 4x4s

...well here's mine. K10 from 1987. Its all stock, except the rims and tyres and fuel...used to be white when built in L.A.?..well the Propane gas system was installed there...and thats so perfect! I couldnt afford to run this truck if it werent for that. I bought it when it was painted black, off an old boy who said he had to sell it as he could no longer lift the wheels on and off. I'm beginning to feel like that too sometimes!! Its a rare beast over here in England. In five years ownership Ive only seen one other... a fleetside. I recently spent a year in France, towing a six meter long caravan all up and down the Pyrenees mountains and over in to Spain. It did well of course, but it gets very underpowered with the propane. Bits keep on breaking/falling off/bursting in to flames....but its a great truck. Bigger than virtually everything at the lights of course...not a lady killer...but actually the ladies arent really after your wheels are they?
I like it a lot, but I wish above all things that the suspension was smoother....and I know there are all sorts of sexy bits one can buy to fix that...but thats going to have to wait. Wish you all well... Andrew...and trust these images are attached!! ...well they are, but you need to go to the next page to see them.

Re: 73-87 4x4s

...ok, here they are!! Look at the previous page for more information.

...and let me tell you, those roads in the mountains really are very, very narrow and for the bends you need to take two or even three bites at it. Heaven help everybody if you meet another vehicle coming the other way....and note the lookalike U.S. plates...the police here in the UK dont like them...but Ive never even been stopped here in five years. The French police however...more or less they just want to practice their english and maybe say hello.
