Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
heres what i got which should be about done...but id like to add a few things to update this. its very time consuming and trial and error but i love the stock finished look. i ran an 80s camaro tach in mine along with the battery gauge guts in the ammeter face...so its a little different.
to get the factory paint off the lens...use Purple Power. it dissolves it VERY easy. be very careful with it and dont let it run to the other printed areas. the green paint i found was at Hobby Lobby. it comes in a little small spray can and it matches VERY well imo. i did 3 coats and it came out nice. i found a 2 wire light socket on amazon that fits pretty good. the base is rubber and does have 4 locking tabs but they fit very nice. if you need to add holes...go just UNDER 5/8" on the hole (i used a drill step bit). all the 5/8 will make it a little loose which is why you see the silicone on one of them. i havent plugged this in to check on the truck yet so cant comment on that yet (truck isnt even running yet) for the fuel gauge...i cut out the stock red lens for the oil and temp lights. instead, i cut the high beam and service engine plastics off the old s10 gauge. cut to fit, then mask off and paint over the words not being used or that will show..then you can glue them to the fuel gauge. gives you a stock-ish way to get a high beam indicator and SES light without drilling into anything

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
Sorry for the vague question. I was mainly asking how you glued them down. Also, how did you get the old ones off without ruining the gauge?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
if i remember correctly that red film just pulls right off leaving the holes blank. then, you cut the s10 gauges to fit over them and leave enough to cover the holes. i used super glue to fix them back to the gauges. hope this helps!

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
I am having trouble finding 18–20-gauge sheet metal in my area. Would 22-gauge aluminum work ok?

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
Personally I think .027" thick aluminum is too thin and flimsy.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
So I went cheap and bought a small cooking sheet from Wally World for $7. It felt pretty sturdy so I cut my piece out of that. It's aluminum but I think it should work and is easy to work with so far.

Re: 67-72 Electric speedo
If wanting a stock type check engine light in the dash cluster for an LS swap. Acquire a gas gauge from a 40 series + truck with a diesel engine. IIRC the light up position on bottom right of gauge says "engine" Have a cluster with an air pressure gauge to use in my truck and it has this gas gauge. Been a long time since I have looked at it. Maybe different but was appropriate, just remember I am going to use this as an SES light on my truck.
