that picture was taken through a binocular, if you couldnt tell. just not enough zoom on my camera phone haha.
the boom was the fuse opening, if anyone was interested, at 35Kv it sounded like a higher frequency sonic boom.

I remember watching lightning out the window with my mom as a kid. It hit a transformer across the street. Holy crap did it explode! Fire and sparks everywhere.

Rims and tires look great, really set off the truck. Poor little guy I wonder how many times he had gone there before. I have seen 2 transformers blow on my street, with the blue/green light, sparks and the sound you would swear the aliens are attacking.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I was out working on a job one day. It was pouring rain and heard first arching then boom. Power goes out and people in the neighborhood come outside to see what happened. I notice smoke behind a house across the street. Closer look a tree in the backyard is on fire and the only neighbors that didn't come out was the people with the fire. Bang on the door an old lady comes out and proceed to tell her what happened. She looks at me and says "oh". She goes back in. Few seconds later her son comes out no shirt shoes nothing saying "What should we do?" By this time I can hear fire trucks. I just told him hear comes help. Fire trucks pull up. They're trying to figure out where to go to get access to the pole and fire. The son goes up to one of the firefighters and says "There's a fire". I went back to the dark to work.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
goood lawd that looks like a great combo. See I have to have the wheels and tires on bf I really start the build, just kinda my motivation to what it can look like. you seem to keep the best till last! summit rules with all those rim options and free shipping. I ordered the wrong rims, sent all 4 back free of charge they are great.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I only put the rims on when I am sure its almost done. my 22" billets sat in the garage for 6 years haha everyone said "bolt them on, get motivated" nnnnnnope.
picture for this page I got all the strips de bolted and bed wood cut to fit. you would think I had done this before, went fast! need washers to bolt it down, and to close out the end of the bed, probably do that tomorrow. may need some angle strips on the sides, I cut some off the 41 in the back yard though so I have em.

That thing looks awesome with those wheels. I may have to consider those for mine, I was planning rallies with police caps, but now not so sure...

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
thanks everyone
I was going to take it to the hutch swap meet today with a for sale sign on it (still finishing gauges) and the LAST lug nut on the LAST wheel the LAST time I took them off, crossthreaded. I dont want to drive it with 4 wheel lug nuts on a billet aluminum spacer so I will take it off tomorrow (wedding today) and see if I can replace the stud, or more likely I will just buy new rear spacers. always something. also the oveflow tank hits the hood and the S10 AC lines bolt up to the tahoe box but the orifice tube is in the lines on a tahoe, so I need some tahoe AC lines. its the little things.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I saw a white Tahoe last saturday at LKQ. Probably the first row, in the truck section. Did not notice if the A/C lines were still there but the entire A/C heater box was.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
thanks, looking into it I need truck lines because the Tahoe/Suburban trucks have branch lines to the rear AC.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I was working on the gauges but I cant find a color I like for the gauge faces. tried all sorts of almonds and ivories and whites with pearl and white metallics, have a flat white on there now that looks promising.
so I worked on finishing the bed. got all the wood trimmed and the strips arranged. the two center strips have a different hole pattern and a couple holes are over dents so the 2" screws I bought dont grab anything but air. that gap at the front, I filled it with a piece from another bed board. good to have extra welded up the back and got it painted. not fancy, just a gap filler. and in the world of "what the heck", I counter sunk a couple screws in the outside boards to keep the clean look with no angle strips. passenger side went perfect, drivers rear though, I countersunk then drilled and put the screw in, and it fell all the way in. I pulled the screw out and this was my view note you can see all the way through. if you look at older pictures of the bed there was a 3/8" hole there. I picked the exact spot to drill where there was an existing hole. yay me. I drilled one about an inch further back, I will buy a lottery ticket with my luck and fill the first countersink with a plug. more later!

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
yes, what are the odds indeed? in the picture, its NOT the big black dot, that is tree trash from the rain. its the little dot in front of the big black dot.
oh, and a squirrel update, he hasnt resurrected, in fact he is still there.

Those artillery wheels and WWs look great. I think if I ever were to get an AD that's what I would have to put on it.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
thanks, I think they fit the look just right. maybe I said it, but on my 41 (next project) I plan to use the skinny 5" or 6" ones and the bias look radials so that the caps poke out a little. I love that look!
working on gauges, decided the odo would be appropriate on the gauge face. The last truck I used a non-tach cluster so the odo and PRNDL were all one piece, but on the tach dash they are separate. on the last truck it had a gazillion miles so I didnt care about the odo reading but on this truck it only has 79k miles and I DO care about showing that. the mileage is stored in the cluster, so I cant change to a single gauge cluster unless it had the same miles. enough blubbering. trial fit. the last time I glued the display to the face but this time I wanted a stronger mount. there is a nice plastic ring on the cluster that I filed down so that it would be at the correct height in the 49 gauge. I used my gap filler glue and it is STRONG. next I wanted a stronger way to mount the speedo gauge, so I gutted the 49 speedo mount and drilled the s10 gauge face to mount to it. I had to countersink the screws which was nerve wracking but worked perfect. I also drilled the speedo to accept the turn signals (amber) and high beam indicator (green). I would have liked to use green for turn and blue for high beam but cest la vie, radio shack was limited on their LEDs the lower holes are for the speedo limit pins, when you plug the gauges in they self test pin to pin so that the speedo is calibrated. on the last truck I played with this to see if I could widen the range, and it worked! The flat white still looks like ****, pardon my french. I am going to sand it off and leave it kind of raw, I think that will look better. mounted the quad gauges too. this zap a gap glue is the best, so strong!. Last time I drilled and used screws and it was still a wobbly mess. I got the extension harnesses for the steppers built, just need to plug them in, the turn and high beam wires run, all I need is to sand the faces for the patina and then assemble. I got some nice blue 12v panel lights for backlighting. should work a treat!

That's awesome what you are doing with the gauges, I never would of thought to try any of that. Can't wait to see them finished.
