Re: My Facetruck thread.
I know the kind of guy you're talking about special. I was about 20 ad went to work for a framer once. On the second day he pulled the book out of his back pocket and started cutting rafters. I asked how much lower that dormer was than the rest and he told me it was the same height. I told him he was cutting them too short and at the wrong angle. I even told him we could take the two he already cut and check. This was my second day working for him. He told me they were right and he cut the ones for the roof the same way the day before. I stepped back said Ok you're the boss. The section he was cutting was about 10 ft narrower than the other and the rafters he cut by the book came out 18 in short. He was madder at me than himself. I didn't work for him long. I don't have any idea if he made it in the framing business, he was loading 3 skill saws, an air compressor, a table saw and several nail guns in a Mercury Bobcat every day. I'm pretty sure I'm glad he never had the chance to teach me framing.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
There use to be a father son carpenter team in town.
The old guy was about the same age as my dad. In the early nineties I hired them to build a spec house for me. I went by to check on them one day and they were ready for rafters. Old Raymond asked his son, "Well Don I wonder how long them damn things are" and reached for his framing square to calculate. I whipped out my Construction Master calculator and in about ten seconds told him the answer. He never acknowledged me and in about two minutes had the same answer. I have never been one to micro-manage, so I said "you guys have a good day, see you tomorrow."

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Contractor stories.... Had a bunch of cement work that I needed done. Hire a local guy that has been in business for over 20 years. Need a pad for a shed (16x24) and a front porch (8x26). On the front porch there was no door way yet, so I explained to him to make sure it ends up below the inside floor level. And on the shed pad I was putting vinyl privacy fence around the yard. And I needed the pad to have the fence post installed in the edging of the pad....he assures me that there will be no problems, he understands my concerns.
The porch ends up 3/4" above my floor! And the shed pad is fine except every post was staggered a couple of inches! Great guy! Terrible at his job! So anyone in central IL that needs cement work done, I know who NOT to call

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Years back I had a 16x24 pad poured.
Helper smarta$$ kid got punched in the face by new helper kid. Boss guy threw a hammer at one of them and finished the job himself. Second pour, my current shop, helper kid kept asking when "we" meaning get my paycheck, would be done. Boss ignored him but #1 helper guy said if he asked one more time someone wouldn't be able to cash their check. Didn't realize concrete people are so violent. Have poured all my own concrete since myself. |

Re: My Facetruck thread.
WE have a concrete guy like that (throws fits).
He's the grandson of ole Raymond I mentioned earlier. He will just blow up, and go into a mad rage if any little thing goes wrong. He doesn't manage his money, and it's everybody else's fault. I ran him out of the office more than once. My son in law finally blackballed him.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Not too bad for my first time doing a complete job. Those hand benders and me are starting to get along....finally! Hope to get the rest of the wire pulled today and start getting the lights hung.
I noticed that sheeting on the inside wall too. My thought was "that wall had to weigh a ton to stand up with all of the sheeting and wrap!" Nice job!

Re: My Facetruck thread.
Easier than brake line anyway.
Did someone say micro-manage? On that golf course job, not only did my buddy have us (not me!) lay out the first plate that didn't need any marks, he insists that you use the framing square, mark both sides, make an X from corners to corners using either a Sharpie or a red pencil. That is how he always does it. Does this give you any idea what it would be like to work with him? beyond micro-manage >> I mark the edge facing up where you can see the marks and he doesn't allow that. On good work I also use a combination square set to the width of the plate to give a square mark. On fast and furious jobs I just eyeball that because after 45 years I can "eyeball" square

Re: My Facetruck thread.
My wife and I had Breakfast for dinner. It's cool out and I really really really like bacon and EGGs. I took a pic but it was just a Blur of it being consumed. Bacon, eggs, smashed brown taters and biscuits. Now I'm on the hunt again. I looked for a while but didn't find the contact info so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I see the all whites egg products in the stores all the time but I can't seem to find out what they do with the Yolks. Don't get me wrong, the whites are OK and important because they hold the yolks so well but I sure would like to have a couple more yolks per white. Someone must be stockpiling the yolks and I want his contact info so I can fulfill my desire. I just can't seem to get enough of that golden (or if I'm lucky enough to get farm fresh eggs, orangish) gooey yummy biscuit sopping delishishness. Please help !!!!
BTW special, I like sausage equally. Mrs Panel has a preference for bacon.

Re: My Facetruck thread.
^ I like the way Mrs. Panel thinks! I loves me some fried bacon, mMmm!
Mrs. Bee and the kids like bacon too but in her efforts to eat healthier, started buying egg whites for herself.. kids and I enjoy the whole egg the way God makes 'em.. I still remember the first time my little princess tried bacon, she got a big grin on her face and said 'I like bacon daddy' proud father moment.. growing up on the farm, my folks built a hen house and started with 100 hens the first year 50/50 English Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds.. second year 100 more of the same ratio.. a hen will lay an egg just about every day pausing of course when they molt around winter time.. talk about eating eggs! it was great, you could bathe in egg yolks if you wanted to.. mom sold a lot to locals for cheap and we ate, baked, and cooked the rest.. we ran cattle, angus and hereford, so we had to sell/trade beef for pork.. but we scored plenty of juicy bacon locally.. glad you enjoyed your breakfast for dinner, now I'm hungry!

Re: My Facetruck thread.
We have a deli on the way to work that will make up a bacon egg and cheese or sausage egg and cheese biscuit with a real fried egg.
I have stopped putting the cheese on as my effort to eat healthier. I only go by there about twice a month.

Killer Bee,
where do you get the Tillamoo Cheese? Tillamook Cheese is what it should be! That's where my wife grew up, and they have the famous Tillamook Cheese factory there! |

The guy told me that there is not enough milk from the cows to supply the needs for the cheeses any more and they have to import milk form other places in the state to keep up with demands to sell their products.. In Tillamonk or near it is a big big wheel borrow a guy made that had two wrecked cars in the tub of it for all to see when driving by,, it had what looked like light poles for handel bars and the wheel for it was around 10 feet tall.. Also a large Blimp garage is there in Tillamonk that housed Blimps in world war 2 and then later a whole sawmill was running inside the building ,,it is still there I believe ..

Re: My Facetruck thread.
I work swing shift....so anytime is breakfast time for me.
Doc told me about 6 months ago that I am diabetic so I have been watching my intake pretty good. Went in Monday morning for my check up to see how I have been doing. Lost 17 pounds and blood pressure is the best it has been in for a very long time. Larry, my doc told me I can eat all the cheese I want. But no more gravy .... My favorite!

Re: My Facetruck thread.
^ LoL, I remember moms rule for the regular egg buyers, bring a carton.. we had stacks of various sorts of paper, foam, etc. long time ago but do remember mom had her favorite types of cartons.. seems our eggs were fairly consistent but they did vary some.. must have been mostly extra large cartons and smaller ones fit as well? over 30 years ago when I was a young teen.. I do remember our hens could lay some whoppers though!
cool you have fresh eggs regularly, I really miss that rich flavor.. our hens ate very well and made fantastic eggs.. funny thing I didn't mention.. most of the hens layed in the tin hutches in the coop.. but in the long summer days when they spent more time outside, some would lay wherever they happened to be.. planters, bushes, tractors seats, patio chairs, lol.. and gathering eggs in the hutches was always exciting, some wanted only empty bins, others would sit on 3 eggs and lay theirs.. and some didn't mind a gentle reach under to grab eggs, others all hell break loose! they're fun critters to raise.. chickens are legal in my city, thinking about building a small coop for a few laying hens for my kids to experience.. and full well plan to raise some hens when I retire back on the family farm..
