Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
SO....Found out what was wrong. This is one of them times i should have listened to the wife. First time she road in it she said it sounds like it has a miss. Well she was sure right. Pulled cover and coils and found this. Not sure what happened but nothing is bent or broken. Push rod is not bent, valve moves free up and down and spins freely, spring is ok, retainer is ok. Only thing found is scratches on valve cover. This kind of luck will not happen again to me. The rocker was actually holding the push rod up out of way. Let me tell you i was VERY happy to see this. It meant i most likly will not have to pull heads. Went ahead changed #1 intake valve seal. An added benifit i the horible exhaust noise is gone. And has about 60 more hp. I mean that big burb will plant you in your seat. Gave my bro, his gf, my wife, kid ride to day and when i punched it everyone stoped talking and just smiled. Even my bro was impressed and he is VERY hard to impress. It is funny how smoth it ran on 7. I can also lock up my converter now. Befor when i locked it up the hole truck shaked bad. Now it is very smooth. I am so happy with engine now.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Outstanding news buddy! Nothing like a free fix. You had me nervous and starting to doubt the indestructibility reputation of these motors. I'm gonna have a speed shop install my cam next week. I don't want to run the risk of messing something up and it costing me more than they would have charged in the first place. Sounds like you're really enjoying the power. That's what I'm forward to.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
glad to hear it was something simple...but uh.....didn't you put in the p-rods and valve springs to go with the cam?
the LSx motors (early models, 6.0 included) have had one issue....CSK or cold start knock. The pistons rock in the bore as they cycle up and down until everything comes up to temp...giving almost a diesel like clatter.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
good to hear it was a easy fix
all the late model v8 ford engines are junk, at my work I see several 4.6 with blown at spark plugs and 5.4 when you pull them at they usually break off in the cylinder because the spark plugs have a sleeve that sticks about inch past the treads and get carbon build up , and any ford Diesel past the 7.3 is trash they have nothing but problems

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Got some more done today. Got my uego and tach installed. That wideband is very fast. It jumps around about as fast as conditions change. I figured it was going to be slow but it flys around so fast. If i am crusing and then punch it the needle folows my foot just about. It idles at 11.5-12 but if i punch it it dives to sometimes 18 to 1. But most of the time it is 13-15 to one. I will install my digger acceleator nozzel and maybe go up one or two jet sizes. And lean out idle a 1/4 turn i think.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Not really an issue I guess but it is for me, torn between 6.0 and 5.3, have you had a chance to check fuel mileage. I know the bigger cam will probably hurt it a little. I'm looking at going with a carbed LS set up on my 94Z71 when she gives out, will be a daily driver.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
On the gas milage it is the same or better then my old 350 with same carb. The most recent milage i got out of my 350 is 8.5 mpg. But my speedo is way off. At 55 on my speedo i am doing 65...found that out hard way. I drove it hard from last tuesday on maybe a little more then 1/4 tank. Filled it tuesday and have little less then 3/4s left. I mean i have gave it hell. Prob punching it 3-4 times a day. Maybe burn out here and there sence i fixed rocker sat. I would deff do the 6.0 if you dont you will always regret not having the extra power. I dont even realy have to push on gas to keep up with traffic. I know if i did a 5.3 i would alway want more. I had thoughts of a 4.8 or 5.3 in my burb but i dont think i could have lived knowing for a few hundred more bucks i could have had a 6.0.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
That's the exact dilemma I had for the longest. I wanted to get a 5.3 just to get it quicker than it would take me for the 6. I knew I would regret it, so I held out. Now I'm about 2 months from getting the 6 in and burning up the streets!

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Awesome progress! Glad you got the tach and the O2 sensor in! One thing I learned with my O2 is that 14.7:1 is not necessarily where you want to be on the a/f ratio. My truck does not like to idle that lean. It is much happier at 13.5 - 14.0 :1, so why fight it. As for idle quality I still ended up going for max vacuum. Now we just need some videos!

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Looks good. IMHO you'll need to be seeing 12.4-13.2 or so when your on it (depending on how hard). For idle go for best vaccum reading. For cruise you can go to 14.2-14.7:1's (even 15.0's is possible at light cruise) or there abouts.
Instead of 14.7:1..... I'm guessing you'll be at 13.0 or so most of the time.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Deff smell fuel. If i am cruzing and i let off then push everso lightly my af goes to 9.9-10.2 But if i push little harder it goes to normal or lean. Buy going down highway it i throttle in to it at all it pegs out at 18 then slowly goes to 15 or so.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4
Well got sometime to play today. Installed my #33 fuel nozzle or accelerator pump and checked the float level and set idle mix to max vaccum. As it turns out my float level was perfict, my idle mix that i turned in a 8th turn the other day was perfict and i also put the med spring in my quick change vac secondary pod. Wow what a differance. Absolutly no hesitation at all any more. When i punch it while driving the wideband takes slight dip to rich not way over to the lean side any more. Even in overdrive it does not hesitate when i throttle in to it. It is amazing. VERY HAPPY with set up other then still a little lean on highway. Other then that it is GREAT

AWESOME! Can't wait to see some videos! A little lean is OK - that saves you $$$. A lot lean, not so much - that costs you $$$.
