Why is that? Are you moving the rear hangers?

Ive always found it easier to get stuff out of the back of my truck that way! LOL.
Never been into that look unless I have a yard of drain rock in the back like this weekend. See it all the time on unloaded trucks though. Usually with the wide low profile wheels / tires with so much offset that they stick out 6".

Is that the direction you're going Marcus?

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

No Cali Lean hahaha. Just had to do the shackle flip and zero rate in the back. Still have to do rear shocks and get the new shoes on, but it looks way better with the ass up I think. Maybe it will be level with 1500 lbs of camper in the back?

Took it for a quick spin. Front seems pretty supple. Back is pretty bouncy with no shocks.

Good choice on the tires. I have the STT's on my Jeep and have been real happy with them. I actually have Coopers on everything I own.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

About two years ago we started running the ST Maxx in 285/70R17 on all our work trucks. They wear decently for what we do to them and we get a lot less flats. They also dig well. My plan is to get them siped and run them year round. The 255's will be my summer tires for the plow truck.

I need a new hitch as my old one completely interferes with the shackle flip brackets. The B&W hitch part number BWHDRH25122 looks like it might work. They have a lot of pics on their web site of a square body truck with it installed. It's also rated to 16k which is good. My removed hitch will go on the plow truck when it gets a fleet side bed and step bumper.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Could have told me it was level and i would have believed it! Cant wait to see it with the new tries on! On that front, just a small FYI if you are interested. you may know all this already but, the GM steel wheels are 6.5" wide. Ford had identical wheels in the mid nineties on their pickups and vans that are 7" wide. Its only a half an inch, but its a half an inch that is all to the outside. I like them myself as they look like dead ringers for GM wheels but are just that tiny bit wider for better tire fitment and look just a slight bit more "tough".

Good info thanks. I had heard of the Ford rims working, but wanted the full 8" wide rim to run 35's.

These showed up quickly.

Damn! Got some 16x8 wheel vintiques!? You are building my truck! We have strangely similar taste. You just have a little more dough than I do

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

I would argue that we both have excellent taste! Wish I had the talent to lay down the paint like you did. Hard to believe it has been almost 4 years getting to this point. I try to do accurate budgets for each of my phases of work which keeps me from getting too far ahead of myself.

Looks great Marcus! The only thing you need once you get the bigger meats on it are a set of fender flares. If you are interested in flares you better hurry as I recently spoke to Xenon and they are just about to end production of their square body flares. Same with Bushwacker non-cut outs. It won’t be long and the only flares available for these will be Bushwacker Cut-outs although LMC might by the tool from Xenon (according to Xenon) to continue making their flares….. In China or Taiwan of course.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Good intel thanks Larry. I hope my mud flaps give me enough coverage but I guess we will see! Between wheels and tires and my solution to make the ass sit level, all my piggy banks are broken.

J-Rod and I tried to burn the shock mounts on yesterday, but the little 110 Lincoln just didn't have the juice to make enough heat. Got out the big guns today and it turned out well. The ride is nice and controlled, but still firm now that it has shocks on all four corners.

Re: 1991 V3500 Project Heavy Hauler

Done is a relative term hahaha. Really I'll have more of an opinion at the end of the summer. Key is going to be reliability and uptime. I still need to get the transmission rebuilt, and replace the lifters and oil pump on the motor.

Big test is will it fit my whole family comfortably and bomb all over the great white north. I think it will haul the camper fine. We were looking at new pop up but found this for about the same $$ as the down payment.

.
could it be the engine just needs to be flushed , sounds to me that theres some of gunk in the oilchannels from lack of oilchanges
could well be that if you put some additives (seafoam?) in the oil and change the oil AND THE FILTER a few times after a big trip it could be the pressure will go up (oilpressurevalve will seal again ) and the lifters go silent
