Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

This fiberglass dash for 60-66 C10 was purchased from US Body Source. Around $300 bucks plus shipping of $150. Took 8 weeks to receive it and comes very very rough. It needed a lot of work fitting and smoothing to get ready for paint. When it is all done I think it will be awesome, but if I had to do again for the price and work, probably not. Probably just weld on the original.

Installed the mid shift kit on the tremec this evening. Now the shifter won't be under the cab floor anymore.

Had my front fender, hood, grill, bumper and headlight straightened. First time I've ever seen one of these awesome machines work. It was fun watching a pro work and move it all back to its proper place, or at least close enough.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

Finished up the bed last weekend, new headache rack, mud flaps and painted with POR-15, installed toolbox. One headlight was held in with the bezel, broken headlamp adjusters and rivots broke between grill and mounting bracket. Time to put used grill on I had bought. Finished that tonight.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

Got more done this past weekend. The steering was jacked up because of the lower bearing in the steering column was worn out. It was one of the original bearings without sides or grease in it. We replaced it with one of the good, heavy duty bearings that should last a long time. We did have to weld on the steering shaft to fill in where the bad bearing had ground a groove in the shaft and then grind it smooth of course. Now the steering feels nice and tight without any slop. Along with that, we cut off the gear selector mounting lug and, removed the gear indicator, filled up the holes with bondo, sanded and painted it to make it a floor shift steering column. Then, we fitted a sheet metal patch that I purchased from LMC, in the hole on the left side of the cab where the old fuel filler was located. After grinding it down, putting on some bondo, sanding that down, we slapped on a couple coats of good primer. Next weekend, we're gonna finish the exhaust. Amoung the things left to do is, installing a tach, installing a horn, lining up the body panels and, doing a little touch up painting. I'm not going to do a full new paint job. Besides not having the money for that, I'd rather it have a rat rod type paint job. It's gettin there!!

Did a little more work on my guage cluster today. The little bow ties have chrome behind them and the bezel is going to be chrome.

How do you like that steering wheel? I've been eyeing that same one for awhile.

I like the wheel so far, going from a stock custom wheel to this, should be rather different. Haven't had to chance to drive it yet, but give me a few weeks.

Was it vary hard getting the window in with the trim. I used Steel Rubber for the gasket and the glass guy had a real hard time getting it in. What brand did you use?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

Thanks! I used Precision glass seals throughout, including the front windshield (back glass, vent windows, door channels, etc.). It took me a couple of hours with the help of a friend. I've had really good luck with Precision on the curved glass applications. I had good experiences with Steele on flat glass windshields in the past when they were the only premium seal maker around...not so much on the curved windshields recently.
