Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
Right on dude. Just went through the whole thread and its looking great!!
I'll basically have the same suspension set up on mine aside from a few things. I have an older Ridetech AirBar some lower SuicideDoors arms with swaybar and shock mounts, speedway uppers and Belltech 2102 blazer spindles. Cant wait to get moving on my project! |

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
8-7 FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY another big stepping stone off the list. Gotta wrap up a few interior things, do the speedo conversion and log some miles then its on its way to a new home.
made a little commercial thingy that shows the 49' toward the end. I'll be making some better vids, when I get better footage. Just kinda used what I had, luckily it was enough to even get this far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXXf...ature=youtu.be

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
thanks guys, still need to log some serious miles, finish interior and get an alignment. so this project isn't out of my hair yet. up next is "prison bound" either goin for paint, prolly bagged, going LS and we'll see about trans. If I don't get my hands on a decent patina this fall, I'll just use the 55.1 body I have and paint it, since there is no patina.
with the time and money I have in this one, I really don't want to take the time and money to paint and risk the return. Market is at an all time high, it's hard to take the risk with selling a painted truck. Esp for me supporting my fam, traveling so much and running a biz so far from home, not to mention I don't make jack squat and its risky enough putting my money into this stuff. its like having a mortgage payment every month.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
Congrats Henry! It's gotta feel good to finally have it drivable. Have you found a new home for it yet? How does it drive/feel compared to the '51?

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
hey greg, I thought you were buying it!!!! No one yet, haven't really posted too much about it. did put my 51' up for sale, auction ends tonight. It may not sell though. I got most the carpet in today. Pics suck I know. I'll get some better ones. Need to get some welt cord for the carpeting. Still need to make a custom shifter shaft. As for the drivability, I really can't say for sure yet, since I literally haven't driven this truck much, and it will need aligned. but I would say the 49' is better. Still have to play with the pressures and height. Since I have one bag that leaks I gotta run more pressure in that side. So I gotta fix that and take it for a looong cruise.

Didn't know the 51 was for sale also. I wish I could take one of EM off your hands! Looking forward to your next build, too.

So cool Henry. It looks amazing. As for the patina thing your right it's the hottest thing going right now. I've decided to flat clear mine the way it sits. Keep it up and get some miles!!

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
8-14 Took the 49hardtimes on up to Erie, about 100 mile round trip. zero problems, drives really good even with no alignment. Only one little problem I have right now is my fuel sending unit or gauge isn't reading. So I have to look into that. they are both new and I believe meant to work with each other. The gauge powers up and shoes E, then when powered off, falls past E. anyway I'll make some more vids when I have help filming. This one is boring but you get the idea. Here is the VIDEO

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
8-17, thanks guys. today I started on my speedo conversion. I'm using and autometer gauge, about $140 to my door, hope I don't ruin it! I hooked it up and it was def not reading right. So I did the calibration and it seems to be pretty close. I have a GPS I'm comparing it with. I can always re calibrate it later. I tore the gauge apart and scanned the plate. Matched up all my numbers like I did with my tach conversion. I'll post some video and possibly a how to thread if it all works out.
On another decent note, I fixed my fuel sending problem. Had two wires crossed on the gauge. On a bad note, my relay for the compressors stopped working today, but all the sudden started working. So go figure, cat and mouse when I just wanna wrap up all the little things, I get more problems.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
yeah def a blast to drive, really hasn't sunk in yet. all that hard work, its going to be nice to be finished. I like the truck better than my 51' so its a bit of motivation to fix up some stuff on my 51'. mainly interior. going to be doing a speedo and tach conversion for my 51 and some other cosmetic interior stuff.
So here are a couple pics of the speedo conversion. I'll post a whole how to on this next week. should be done with it then.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
8-21 Just about done with the speedo conversion. I need to pick up a glass cutting bit tomorrow so I can drill a hole through the glass for the trip setter button. Once I do that, just a matter of putting it all in and wiring up the lights for it.

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
Great conversion!! Thinking about doing the same and hiding my other gauges. I think I'll do a gps speedo, tho. Seems like less hassle unless there's something I don't know about them (which is highly possible!!)

Very nice conversion 99. Liked the video too!
Today I drove from Gettysburg to Breezewood on rt 30. All the hills, sharp curves and elevation changes made me dizzy...don't know how you and Iceburgh handle them. Guess I like my flat straight roads...lol. Thanks for sharing the conversion. Nice work. |

Re: 49' Patina bagged in PA
49- The GPS module from autometer is $200 bucks, so I think with that you could just wire it up to any electronic gauge, cheapest autometer electric gauge is $130-40. So to me its a waste, if your transmission has VSS. If your trans has no VSS (older) then you can do mechanical route. Also unless the GPS versions are better than my little TOMTOM that I'v used. They go in and out of service on back roads etc. So that wouldn't be cool.
AD- hahaha yeah breezewood aka blazewood, been there many times. It does get windy around them parts. not as bad as WV though, that place is all mountains. PA has a little bit of everything.
