Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Originally ordered the wrong bedsills, so had to fix it the hard way. By cutting them down. I ordered metal sills versus wood sills. I just bought a MIG welder this week so I was able to try my first welds . Not pretty but it got the job done and good practice for me. Only you and me will know how ugly they are LOL. But at least my body lines line up better now.

I wish my first welds looked that good! Nice work. Still love that truck. Looks real purdy!

That's a nice original spotlight, the little cap on top thing can be found that says "GM", "CHEVY" or "GMC" if you hunt around .

I was told those white plastic handles are back in production again (?) .

The correct mounting kits are dirt cheap and include the proper paper template to mark the holes -AND- a drilling guide so even thumblethumbs like _me_ can install these lights cleanly .

Welding looks good, it's not really important how it looks, the penetration is what's critical .

Put the cab and bed back on to see how far back I can move my engine. Plus it was a little motivation to see it as a vehicle instead of just a pile of parts.

Panel came with these van buckets. Couldn’t stand them found a bench frame with foam on Craigslist. Couldn’t find covers for a 68 so made this guy from scratch. A pattern would have helped a lot

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Worked on the ramp some more today. Installed a old set of radiator support panels to force the air through the radiator and put some black foam all the way around the shroud.
I also cut the panel to access the over flow for the radiator.

I added some lights to to the back of the truck. For night time loading and tailgater's!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Is that one of those power washer wands that mixes sand with high pressured water to wet blast the rust away? How did it work out for you? How long to clean your frame?

Completed the restoration on my flip and sold it. Got back on the 69 to figure out what I want to do with the paint. Go back to the fake patina or shine it up. Made an extension cord for the welder.

New harmonic balancer, radiator hoses and belts been chasing down a vibration and noticed the rubber was bulging out on one side. Smooth as silk now even at 75. With a 4:10 rear that's about as high as i want to push it.

New wheels and tires. It was on original steelies and possibly the original tires. Needless to say it had 4 flats. Now I can roll it around in anticipation of bed removal next weekend.

I just saw that thread this morning. Mines a 68 50th but the original paint has been covered with whatever is on it now. I have no idea why it was repainted as the paint is chipping in places and the original gold underneath looks to be in good shape. Whoever painted it didn’t give 2 turds because they didn’t even bother to tape off the chrome “Chevrolet” lettering on the hood, they just painted right over it.
