good day for grave digging!so has anyone done this with pics yet??i'm gonna get the kit as my 241 tail housing is shot and i have a 205 off a 350 with adaptor,so my 1ton burb will be complete(well except for the 4l80e)

Don't know if this helps but this is the AA shaft installed in a 700R with the TH350 adapter. The 2nd pic is the tranny pan clearance with a 2" lift. The 3rd one is how far I had to move the engine forward to keep the transfer case in the stock position

yet to see it mentioned, but what difference would there be if it's a th400? I have a th400/NP 205 and I found a used built 700 I'd like to use. Don't know as I'll do it though if it mans building two new driveshafts. Would add a lot of expense, plus I want to be able to switch back if I need to, say if the 700 explodes and I can't afford to get a new one. I'd want to be able to throw the 400 back in.

700 had 27 spline, TH400 has 32 spline.

great (old) thread, I have a 700r4 and a 205...but my 205 was behind an SM465:a 10 spline input shaft...what I need is the coupler (27 spline to 10 spline) and the th350 adapter...I found the adapter, but only been able to find the coupler from advance adapters for 250.00+ I do not want to drop that much coin for that coupler...anyone know of a cheaper place to get one, or what the specs are on that coupler so I can have a buddy at a local machine shop make me one? its the same size as the ten spline coupler, just 27 spline. theres a snap ring in the middle to prevent floating over the splines.
call your local gear place, theyll have em. locally i have nogalitos gear. i think its 67 bucks? its been a while since i looked but its certainly not 250. you did not mention the spacer from techpak fitzall? 75q3a or something. this will prevent your front driveshaft from rubbing the pan. |

I'm most curious about the front driveshaft clearance, I've heard mention of it several times in this thread, about certain types of driveshaft joints and so forth.
Anybody got pictures of the issues and solutions to front driveshaft problems?

the solution is to use the techpak spacer 7q35a. that is the correct part number, just read the box. it pushes the tcase away from the trans by 2 inches or so.
the CV joint is too big. you can see exactly where it has to go in the middle picture of the group of pics above. alternative solutions are to notch your trans pan. |

Ok, so it seems like the issue is that the transfer case is too close to the tranny, yes? I could see where a double-cardan style driveshaft would have even more difficulty clearing.
How is this problem solved with a stock NP241? Is the tranny adapter fairly long? Or is the yoke on the 241 actually out further to clear the pan? Or is it clocked lower? I know you can buy a new output shaft for the 700R4 to make it identical to a TH350 output, which would be obviously shorter than using an adapter, but maybe that's not the preffered method with this clearance issue. Is clocking the 205 an option?

A 241 and 208 have to make room for the planetary gears. So there's a bigger front half to the case, which puts the front output further away from the mounting face. Take a goggle image tour and compete a 241 to a 205. The relation of ujoint center to the mounting face is much different.

Here's a link to my build. I have a 700R4 / NP205 with the later model 4 bolt flange front output. The shaft is a custom made Tom Woods shaft with a smaller CV joint than stock. I dimpled the corner of the pan and it clears by 1/2" or less. That's with a 4" lift. The truck currently sits as in the pictures so I have no up-dates as far as driving it. I do believe the stock U-bolt CV joint would be back closer to the T/C giving you more clearance. But I don't know this for sure.

I'm not sure that this is any better than the stock set up. I like the 4 bolt flange better than the u-bolt flanges, so I went this route. I was showing the picture so everyone could see what the clearance issues are with this set up.
Using the 2" spacer would deffinately give better clearance, but you then have to relocate the drivetrain about 4". 1-7/8 for the 700R4 & 2" for the adpter. I just moved the engine forward the 1-7/8 for my set-up. Hopefully someone has a picture of the stock driveshaft, AA shaft & stock adapter. Edit: The 2"spacer would move your TC back 2 additional inchs, giving you more room between the TC & the 700r4 pan.

It pushes the Tcase further away from the trans. So it is not as close to the pan. The short output shaft has never worked without other mods.

Yea, my main concern is my front drive shaft hitting the pan. It seems like everyone that has done this has had some amount of lift. My Blazer will be stock height. From those photos it already looks very close.

when i did this same set up and i got the shorter output shaft and was told to use a np205 front driveshaft from a 67-72 truck because it has a smaller cv joint

In my '76 I'm running a TH700R4 with a NP205, I used the AA shorter output shaft on the trans. But I also used a deep pan on the trans. so there was no way my stock front driveshaft with the double cardan joint was going the clear that pan. So because of my driveline angles (4 inch lift) I'm eliminating the double cardan joint and just using one u-joint on each end of the shaft.

I did this swap on my truck this summer and just put the front drive shaft in last night. I'm using the shorter shaft and factory TH350 adapter and stock trans pan. I have the double cardon joint on my truck and I'd say the pan to shaft clearance is about 1/8 inch. But I also have a 2.5 inch lift.
