Thanks. Wish I could take the credit, but gotta hand it to Wabbits for the woodwork.

Does anyone know of a bolt-in fiberglass replacement dash? I want to do some serious modifying - without the sacreligious cutting up of an original dash. Than I can probably sell my perfect red dash on e-bay for more money.... heee heee

I've never heard of such, but there is no reason you couldn't make one.

I am going to reassemble my interior tonight. I was just waiting to figure out my subwoofer issues (i.e. where to put the freaking thing) .. turns out I am returning to my oiginal idea of hacking my sealed enclosure down to a managble size and turning it into a vented enclosure since it won't have enough volume by the time it fits where it has to go.

I'll post my interim (embarassing) dash pics after that..

Got a new bezel comming, but it will be a while before I get all the instruments for it and have it prepped.. so it's the 'ol 3-holer (plus tacky extra gauges courtesy of the PO) for me for now.

Here are the before and after pics of my dash. I removed the old vacuum gage that someone cut a hole in the tach location for. Then I cut a piece of painted thin sheet metal to cover up the hole and epoxied it in place. Next I cut out a piece of clear plexiglass to replace the hole in the lens. Lastly I cleaned everything up and painted the faded pointers with fluorescent orange paint. This cost a lot less than replacing all the parts that were hacked up. You can see that I sanded off the "chrome" and also painted the plastic bezel.

Does anyone repop the bezel with the two holes on the right side for choke and throttle? I never see them listed with the other bezels in the catalogs or online, but I'd like to put a new one in my BB truck someday.

Cats Eye - I don't think anybody repops those either. I am not sure if the factory even molded them with that hole. It is fairly easy to modify an existing bezel using a Dremel. The throttle tab is oversized and covers any small nicks. Same with the dash mounted REAR AIR switch w/tab.

The back side of an original bezel has the location clearly marked. Just be careful with the Dremel.

Good luck - Bob

And for a "bank-breaking" $699, you could get this from ECE.

Thanks, Yeah, its a steering wheel out of a 64 Malibu. I liked the look, a little fancier looking than the original black steering wheels. It was pretty easy to hook the horn up. The worst of the restore was replacing the center section (welded in a new piece) where someone used a hack saw to cut a gaping hole in it. Then found a nice original radio. Also went to the guage dash, new bezel, new ignition switch, new duct hoses, new vents, and new paint on the dash.

The Red Rockets Dash. I built a carbon fiber panel that fits the glove box cover. Very nice. Can't find the pix though.

The 500 is fine...it's the 425 that splattered.
Running it at 3500 MIGHT have had something to do with it, however, there are many factors.
The question I'll never have the answer to;
did the piston shatter causing the oil pimp to get clogged... or did the oil pump stop working causing the piston to shatter?
(I found a 3 inch by 3 inch chunk of piston skirt in the oil filter )
