Re: Are hand throttles rare?
Tonight I'll try to get pics of the handle and handle shaft. My cable is not attatched, so I won't be able to get any pics of the OEM cable fastener, but would appreciate someone else doing so.
My father-in-law was telling me that he has several of this type of controller on the dash of his airplane. He said that the knobs have buttons in the middle. Push the button to release pressure on the threads and make course adjustments or turn to make fine adjustments. Aircraft maybe another source for repair parts or non-OEM replacements.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
My Dad had one on his '67 C-10 (6 cyc/3 on the Tree) he bought new in '67. I always thought it was neat. His truck didn't have a PTO or anything else special about it, just a plain jane '67 long fleetside wood bed 6 cyc/3 speed. No radio, no chrome, standard mirrors, with a hand throttle.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
I took mine out of the truck and sold it. It was like having redneck cruise control. Kinda cool, but I really didn't need it

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
I had a 72 k-10 cheyenne that had one. I don't know why either. It was on the glove box tag. It did come off of a farm, but had no PTO. It was an automatic too.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
I tried to repair mine like bucket said, but didn't have any luck keeping the "boss" on the cable after I got it small enought to fit into the handle shaft. I've since moved onto bigget things, but though the best way would be to tack weld a steel BB onto the end of the bicycle cable. Just haven't gotten it done yet.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
Here's some pics of my '71 with the "manual throttle" option.
The middle pic is a little blury, but it is the actual hand throttle. The cable from the dash goes down and connects to the straight verticle piece above the throttle peddle.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
To help with the sticky cable, remove it from the vehicle, clean it with WD or something similar, then just chuck it in the oil drain pan when full.Leave it to soak up oil and lube itself for a few days.I did it with a heater cable and it has lasted several years with no problem.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
byrdman, does your "straight verticle piece" look like the loose bracket on the floor of my truck? Where does it mount?
bucket, mine turns okay under no load, but pops out of place when in use. Would a modified bicycle shift cable repair as you described fix this or do I have problems with the "drive" portion?

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
my 72 has one but it is mounted on the left side below the headlight switch. Never has worked but if it is this unique I might have to try getting i back in when I rebuild the truck.
Does everyone elses label that says Throttle look like it's added after the fact at the dealer? |

I think the one I just bought might have that same "popping" issue described earlier. I really won't be able to tell if it will work right until I install it. Now I have a question: Does anyone know where the cable bracket inside the cab goes? My setup came with another bracket and I haven't seen a picture of it installed anywhere.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
Would anyone on here be willing to sell or know someone who would sell their throttle name plate? Mine has long since been lost, and I took it off so nothing would happen to it...go figure.

Re: Are hand throttles rare?
I believe uncommon and rare are the same thing. If it is uncommon that makes it rare.
