whats funny about that, is... he really was right, maybe not entirely, epsecialy abut the front/ rear split design, and for all anyone know the master cylinder could be the probleom, not the brake fliud being hydroscopic and being saturated with moisture and allowing the lines to rust.

either way, it IS a good idea to change the brake fluid whenever your doing a brake job.

i work at a ford dealership, and we flush the brake fluid with EVERY brake job

It's true that brakes often get overlooked. I know me for example was concerned just to get my truck running and as long as I had brakes I was good. Didn't really check them at all just made sure they worked. Another member on this board (not naming names but he knows who he is) and I were cruising around in his 72 Blazer when his brakes started to fade, luckily we were near his house and we drove it slow back and were able to get it back without a problem but it was a little nerving when the pedal hit the floor and we just kept rolling along.

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

a good thing about youre cab from wat i heared is that its reasonably rustfree and the part that got hit isnt a part that usually rusts on bad cabs (whell at my truck it has rusted in the doorsills themselves near the rubbers but i think thats an exeption to the rule ), if you are or know a good welder he could take out the a pillar and a small section of the roof under the raingutter and craft a piece from a unsalvageable cab in there , he should be able to get it nearly invisiable cause its basicly a boxsection that wont flex no more and crack the paint .
if the sills and stuff are stil hard and the doors still line up it might be worth fixing it up

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

I know where you can get the cab stuff and a swb frame if interested. It`s a`67 cab with a nice upper. You could cut the whole top to section if you want the small window look,or cut what you need.It looks like the damage is up into the top. This cab is slated for scrap.Let me know. It`s at my neighbor`s down the road.

First off, I am glad you are ok, and nobody was badly injured.

Secondly, I am still laughing over this:

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

i'm looking into buying a 4x4 72 in Greenbrook New Jersey, does anyone know of any good towing companies that would tow 200 miles from greenbrook to westminster MD for cheap? i really would love to get this truck, it only needs a few things, which are still good on my wrecked truck. the only thing i ever wished my truck had was 4wd, and here it is : ) i cant wait! i'm getting tired of driving my dads saturn around... any help would be appreciated, thanks

glad your ok..and that nobody was hurt when you went through the window..as mcuh as it hurts to loose somethign you have worked on and have time and money invested in, it can be replaced.. adn acidents do happen,, thats why they are called accidents...

as for the comment abut brakes being the last thign done, im different, because as soon as i get it to fire up, i do the brakes..mst of the time i pull them home on a chain so i already have an idea if they even work,,if they dont it doesnt move until they do..

AMEN!!!

mine is all new, except for the pedal pad. this is NOT a place to get cheap.

I had a complete brake failure on my 80 K20 about 8 years ago. I almost Tboned a cop car. (I never saw a cop turn around so fast before)

it sounds as though you have some fast thinking skills there and have a solid grasp on vehicle control. more people should be like you

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

Totally agree with jakes68. As a matter of fact I've been battling brake problems since I got a hold of my truck. First I had a front left brake line "brake" on me I drove from the college all the way across town to my highschool pumping the brakes and utilizing lower gears and neutral at stop lights! Had to call my dad to bring the trailer down and haul it to the shop. Hey, at least i missed a day of school! Second I was taking my sister to Volleyball at like 7:00 at night and I had a master cylinder go out on me, again limped it across town to my shop. If you try and tell me that I "don't take care of my truck" you don't even know what you're talkin' about! My dad's a mechanic and I have my truck on the lift at least once a week... it was a fluke deal and he had some bad parts let just leave it at that!

Re: my baby got hurt :.(

My 2 cents worth is just this .... I'm glad your fine and no one was hurt. The truck is a bummer but can be replaced.

Having said that this is no tech article and no one is asking for tech advice. So why give it??? If this were me I would be thinking about what happened as I'm sure Alien is. If he wants advice and asks for it then by all means give it. Don't assume that because the truck has seen some primer everything is in disrepair. Parts do fail. I had a tie rod break on a 57 Chevy and I totaled the car. Sh*t sometimes just happens.

esll.
