Did you box the frame rail or otherwise reinforce the area that was notched for exhaust manifold clearance? That looks like a structural stress area, just above the upper shock mount.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
it wasn't to hard. I'm sure ill get flamed, but i just drilled holes. Used large washers on the bottom side and bolted it down. some others actually re-enforce the floor and make brackets.

Thanks, my current seat is well it gone. I was kinda thinking of replacing it with a newer model seat instead of trying to find a old replacement.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Sicmaro,
You did an amazing job!! congratulations, !!!!! I was wondering as far as performance how fast does this truck feel in comparison to just putting a 383 stroker? Reason for my question is because I am at a point where I am trying to decide which way to go as I have an opportunitty to get an ls6 with 550hp for a very reasonable price or I could get a 383 from the engine factory for a little less. The 383 would just be a drop in right now, however I love the new technology but like others have said the wiring part is what is a little intimidating. I did build a supra including dropping in a 2jz engine single turbo from a reg 7mge and went thru the pain of rewiring a new harness in so I know what it takes, just want the truck to move miles per gallon are not important to me as this is my weekend toy.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
I am currently in the process of doing my 5.3 swap. I have mostly everything except the fuel system planned out.
Did you have to plumb a return line or was there a stock return line already in place in the stock truck? What did you use for a regulator? Thanks!!

I ran a new rubber return line to the tank, i used the vent nipple on the filler next to return the fuel back into tank. I put truck rails that have the built in regulator. if you dont have those go get a vette fuel filter. it is regulated in the filter and also give you a return line option.

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Vary nice. I have a 5.3 and don't want to hassle with the wiring either. In my case the $300-400 to mod mine will be worth it. I doubt learning how to do it would help me as I really only plan to do it once, but I have a 70 RS/SS and the ls in your's has me thinking maybe I need to do 2 swaps!? What diagram are you talking about and once I get it, what am I trying to accomplish?? I own some of these, but never was comfortable with wiring and or EFI so the combo is iffy!

you should be able to find the diag. online somewhere. i got them when i worked at my last job of the computer program called mitchell. your bascially traceing each and every wire and learning what its function is. if you trace it and it goes to a fuse/or fuse panel then it prob needs to be hooked to your car some how haha

Yeah, that is the part I am not sure about, as I know a lot of the wires can be tossed etc, just not sure. I need to find someone to sit with me and walk me through it. BTW anyone wanna make some extra $$$$ video yourself rewiring one of these things and sell it!!

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Yeah, but not nearly as done as your's!! Mine is a 70 RS/SS matching #'s w/4-speed, posi, ac, deluxe int, etc, etc. I have owned it for ever, just haven't had the time to finish it up (drivetrain and susp is all new, along with all new interior in OE material) just needs painted and the int installed! JUST!?

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
Very sweet!! Is the code coming from a part the Comp doesn't recognize? Again, I am not a EFI guy at all I just though mismatching components from a LS2 to truck LS or visa versa was a no no because the Comp wouldn't recognize it??
Anyways, that is a sweet Blazer, man, I have a 5.3, had a 6.0, but the effort, time, and $$$ to get one together is more than I can dedicate to a project right now. Honestly, if I just had "ONE" project, I might be able to get stuff rollin' but i have no fewer than 8 vehicles now, and 2-3 are late model drivers the rest are early iron and need stuff?! I have broken down to seriously considering the carb set up just to ease install, but then it costs just as much as paying for all the EFI stuff and the carb will not be as efficient as the EFI, anyways here I go again!! |

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
the code was for the throttle sensor on the side of the throttle body, because it is drive by wire.So tommorow the new one comes in and i can go from there.
all these motors are almost the same in every way but size, all my pullies and brackets are for the Corvette also Glad you like it, my wife calls it the endless pit

Re: Did a lil work on the 71 today.......pics
That is a nice color, is that the stock color.
Mine is sunset orange metalic, the color of the avalanche. sicmaro You did a great job with that motor swap, i couldnt find any thing on any one swapping one into a 4x4, the next one is a 5.3 from a 06 trailblazer into my wife 48 chevy truck, that one is all aluminum also I think that well go smoother than this swap.
