Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
I wouldn't suggest LMC. A lot of folks have had problems with them. I'd say look through the list of board vendors and choose one.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showgroups.php. The ones in red are the board vendors. I know for sure that Christians Classics(Tim Christian) is a good place to buy from.

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
SAME HERE!!! Right now I'm taking drivers ed, working from morning till i take driver's ed, and school starts next week friday and I'm hoping to have my engine started and done by then too. The guys that's gonna teach/help me with that still hasn't gotten the parts in so it's taking a while. You would think with all modern technology and our means of transportation these days stuff should ship faster lol, but then again it's always people busy busy busy too

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
My boss and I were just talking about that the other day. He was talking about how before PCs, internet and instant payment devices everything took 6 weeks. Now, with all of our modern technology, everything still takes 6 weeks

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
The shipping from LMC is faster than anything I have ordered for the truck so far, BUT I haven't even opened the box to check the parts.

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
Cut straight lines with a cut-off wheel. Try not to bend up the old pieces too bad, then you can use them as a template to trace for the new pieces. And, I always make sure to get all of the rust, but don't cut off any more than you have to.

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
I also heard something about using another plate in the back or something to make it stronger and then later grind that all smooth, is that necessary or not?

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
I would only butt weld the patches in. no overlapping metal and welding, you are inviting the rust to come back. if you need cab support etc. you can drill holes in the replacement piece and floorpans to plug weld (simulates a spot weld) them together.

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
FINALLY some updates, got some parts in:
Dropmember And a Pro-plus front disc brake kit, first of a kind on these trucks, it's a 6 piston caliper on 14 inch rotors slotted and drilled The rear brakes are already at the place where I'm getting the axle coverted to 5-lug and rebuilt with eaton posi. I took 2 useless temporary crossmembers off my frame and welded one in the front, maybe can't see too good in the picture below, but that's about it for updates now, hope to be all at it again in about 3 weeks when I'm done school. YES!!! Last edited by yfz450_0569; 10-22-2008 at 11:00 AM. Reason: fix the pictures |

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
Nice! I agree with my67, no over lapping metal. That's just rust waiting to happen no matter how good of a job you do. Those brakes are sweet!

Re: my '68 chevy (no name yet)
Looks badass man! I thought I had it good with my mom buying a lot of my parts, but 14'' Baers!! Damn thats hardcore. I love it and am jealous of those brakes. I am building my 68 as my senior project, so I know a little bit about the age thing. Keep up the good work.
