Re: Project "Dirty D"
If you cut them all off...yes, but if you cut just the upper lip and then start welding it...this will prevent blowing holes. Once you have finished welding then you can proceed to cutting the lower lip. At least this is the way I did it.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Well got into a little trouble with my expensive oil pan...It will not clear the rack and pinion, so I had to do so fab work. I think I test fitted that sucker so much, that I might not have any more threads left for the oil pan screws.
In order to solve the problem, you need the right engine angle and then you have to leave about 1/8 of an inch of space between the lowest point of front crank and oil pan. I was also going to receive 3 big boxes from Nate, but I only got one. "Supposably" ![]() ![]()

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Fortunately we have only had a few issues with lost or damaged packages over the last several years while using UPS. When there is a problem, UPS takes care of it (that's why we always insure the parts for full retail value when we ship).

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Well school and work have not given me a break to update, but I have been ordering more parts: billet steering column firewall bracket, frame mount brake pedal assembly, fuel cell, slick slick slick flush fuel cap from Matt Hotch.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
NO SIR!!! First off all, Im in too DEEP, Second, Im very determined to complete what I start. Third, it's too much of hassle to sell parts, so I rather just let them sit and collect dust until im ready.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Here is a pic of the flush mount gas cap. I planning on triming about 1/4inch around bung lip then weld it on the beds rear stake pocket and paint the same color of the truck so its not visable.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Well I got some work done today and received some parts in
![]() I had to rework the oil pan because the crank was hitting the new section I had added. I ordered my tank from Scott Hotrods and thier tig welding is pretty nice! I had to do alittle grinding on the frame in order to get the tank in.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
I need to elimnate the 1 or 1 1/2' from the firewall to make room for my BB. I will also relocate the master cylinder and hydro booster to the frame so I bought this brake pedal assembly from Scott's.

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Very Cool Project! Man that is a serious project you have there....you said you are in school...right? Keep that up man.
![]() In hindsight I don't know how much it would change where I'm at now in my career. (machine shop manager) but I think I would have cut out about 15 years of every hour of overtime and scraping just to survive. You get that degree and doorways will open! Maybe not immediately, but you will have an edge on the competition. Keep us posted on the build! |

Re: Project "Dirty D"
I been allowing time to fly by without me doing much to the truck and my excuse is that I dont have all the parts in but in reality thier is enough work to keep me busy. So this weekend I decided to get some of the rear suspension done. I will be giving Nate additonal measurments and he will be building me a nice bridge!
The rear brackets have been welding into a solid piece and tacked on for now. Here what I have so far...

Re: Project "Dirty D"
Here's an update...
Front suspension assembled. Had to shave a couple holes in order to install sway bar properly. I think I going to focus on motor angle and steering joints next.

Looking great man! That thing is gonna ride sweet and low!!!
Any link to where you got that gas filler from? I got one but it has knurled ends on the pop up part and i would prefer the smooth one like you have. Thanks.
