Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
the 2 I have are on the middle right side of the back of the seat.
how are you guys getting these papers out w/out destroying them? has anyone found one behind the gas tank? I know alot of times the build sheet on a passenger car will be sandwiched between the gas tank and body.

Jonz, Ours was in lots of little pieces already, so we were just carefully pulled out each piece. I don't know how you would get a big piece out.

Could you scan your build sheet to get a better view? Delete the production numbers if you wish!

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
Murdoc, that sounds like a plan. I'm not a drinking man, but don't have anything against it, so getting together sounds like a good plan! Get Bubba from Star involved, and anyone else around here, and we'll have a party going!
Over on our build, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=427093 I just found out the rest of the info on my build sheet (which turned out to not even be the right one for her truck LOL). But if you could post it, I'm sure the info would come in handy to someone at some point. Aerotruk is the man!!! Using his info, I was able to figure out (3) of the options on the sheet. [QUOTE=chevy_man5;4287872]That's cool 72freak, it sucks that you just sold it though!!QUOTE]
Cant keep them all....In this economy to find someone to give you basically your asking price that also covers everything you have in the truck...it needed to go. My interests have shifted and I am moving away from the 67-72's. There will always be a couple in the fleet but not 6-12 like the past 15 years. I have one more to sell...the 72 4x4 pictured under my screen name to the left and its listed in the for sale section. Someone needs to buy it.

Still in the seat back, mint cond. Glove box sticker is also mint, along with all manuals, envelope, and some literature. 8900 mile barn find. Not many like this, I'm guessing.

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
Man in would be nice to get a scan of the build sheet, It would only come out from behind those springs with great difficulty though. Looks like someone's worked on that seat. Any more pictures of your 66 OEM4ME?

I purchased the truck from the original owners. Although some very minor things were done to the truck before the sale, I have no reason to believe the seat got any attention whatsoever. I do have more pics. soon. |

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
I was able to pull one out of a 66 today (pics later!)
thought I would pass on this info for those wanting to remove a build sheet. what I did was use a bunch of zip ties, I was able to pull the springs towards the seat frame and tie them off, that gave me some room to carefully fold/roll up the sheet and snake it out of the seat back. the sheet isnt perfect, the springs left a good rust/wear spot on it, and some of the sheet had already disappeared, but it is still pretty legible.

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
I visited my 66 last night to start it and let it run a bit (it's in storage). I took a camera with me as I vaguely remembered seeing a build sheet under the seat bottom as well.
Indeed, this brings the total to THREE, counting the seat back, the seat bottom, and the glove box sticker (SPID). While I was at it, I took a shot of the jacking instructions on the floor of the truck, and some sort of ID and/or date stamped into one of the bed planks. |

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
Wait! there's more...
A few more items I find interesting are a rear axle ratio tag that I found when pulling the wheels for the first time, an under hood crayon mark (don't know what it means), and the guy who painted the truck apparently signed it with his initial while still wet. (looks like a script "D") Anyone seen this kind of stuff before? |

Cool find on the axle tag (amazing that it was still there after all these years). K

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
oem, this is what jon did, it would work A LOT better than having my 3 kids and myself jammed in the cab holding back the springs. Sometimes the simple fixes elude me. Those finds are GREAT!! If you could get them out, and scanned, I'm sure someone would be able to use the information!

The build sheets were not "provided", in the sense of being left intentionally as an Easter Egg for enthusiasts or service technicians to find. They were supposed to be thrown away at the end of the line, along with any other ancillary paperwork, coffee cups, extra fasteners and debris. However, since many were inaccessible after the build was complete it was often easier to leave them where they lay and build the vehicle up around them. That's why you often find them with sealer sprayed over the top or with a screw shot through them. That's also why you can find the build sheets for two different vehicles in the same car or truck, the wrong build sheet in the vehicle in front or behind the one you thought you had, or no build sheet at all. They were used any place where the component was built up remotely and conveyed to the main line in sequence. That's why you often find them inside the seats (seats were built up in a separate location, called "the cushion room", due to fire concerns), on top of the fuel tank, under the carpet, etc. K

Re: Have you ever seen the original build sheets...both of them?
Quote:
The dealer "order number" is the first number created. After the final assembly location is chosen, the order goes to that particular plant and the "Primary Vehicle Identifier", or "PVI" number is created. This number takes precedence prior to the VIN being established and until the final line "General Assembly Sequence Number", or "GA" sequence number is determined. After that the GA number is the only number anyone in the assembly plant cares about. All four of those - the Order Number, the PVI and the GA number, and the VIN, should normally appear on the build sheet. When communicating with the different disciplines within the build process you have to know who you are talking to and use the correct number in order to convey to them which vehicle is in question.
