storm, yeah now that you point out the fading I believe thats what i was referring to, when i looked at it earlier i thought it might be some kind of liek blue mother of pearl, and i was Pretty sure they were all that deep blue but i thought it might be one of those rare things, i do like the black highlight... saw one in my dads shop when i was younger, didnt know the black was year specific---

raymo, a bit of advice, and correct me if i am wrong guys because i am in no way a pro at this yet, but a good rule of thumb for body work is get it smooth before you paint as far as when are you done sanding out scratches...if you can feel it you WILL see it once its painted... please let me know if i am way off here guys thats just what i was taught

There are some really beautiful trucks on here. Mine was a real quick paint job with a single stage paint. Needed to get it on the road quick after I bought the truck in December as my normal driver is a 71 that I am currently restoring. These photos are of my quick build low budget 69. I had to paint it over the winter and the cold messed up the color.

Can't remember if the flat black was the OSH Flat Black with spray cans, or the Tractor Supply flat black using the
OSH gun and Micky Mouse compressor. Whatever, they were both done in my driveway.

All that stuff had to be taken off (along with whatever factory stuff was left) by the painter while/during the body work
before the 792 2-stage went on.

The second one is when RAT came back from paint and before striping. Which I *wish* I could have had done before the clear...
.....Stripers and Painters location(s) and timing and all that

I wish I could do paint and body work. But I have clear limitations...Talent AND patience are lacking in this department.
My hat's off to you guys that can do it.

Side Note:

It's a lot easier...some might say "more fun", but I'm not sure about that....to drive a truck and park it anywhere when
you don't have to worry about shopping cart dings, or the lame four year-olds and their mindless parents cracking your
clear, or much worse...with an SUV door.

I painted this one myself a few years ago in my 2 car garage. A good learning experience.

The one thing my father in law taught me is its in the prep work. If the prep work is not good the paint will illuminate it (not blocking right or enough is one big thing). Make sure it's spotless and your shop is also when you spray it. Lots of research and practice before you do your truck will go a long way. Take your time and have fun. Also don't cheap out on the quality of paint, the po of my truck did and now I'm making plans to repaint it.

Just take your time on the body work and guide coat it and block it good before you paint it. Its real easy to miss dents if your just going off of feel and sight. One thing I notice on a lot of DIY jobs is poeple don't get their rough sanding scratches out before they paint.

My paint job is older than this thread. These pics were taken last fall, but I painted this truck in 1989.

90 percent of a good paint job is in the prep.sand prime and block sand for a good straight body. the color black is the least forgiving. it will show evry imperfection.

Wow...some great work there guys.
What some of you think is a so-so paint job looks pretty damn good to me.
I pride myself on not being too anal about this type of thing because it (ie: paint/body perfection) is (in my world) uncontrollable and unlikely to stay perfect.
Not due to abuse....but I will not ever subscribe to the 'keep away/hands off/trailer queen' thing. I like to drive my truck (never abuse it) but I will put the odd 2x4 or box of groceries or bike in the back....no worries, bring it on. ....it is what GM wanted me to do.
The perfect truck for me is in what I call '2 to 3 year old' condition.
Again tho'...very nice work out there guys, very nice.
