Thanks Mac. When I go out to put my new tailights and sending unit in I will clean up the motor a little and take a few pics of it finished up.

I"m thinking of changing to a slightly smaller, maybe black air cleaner.

Finally drove it for the first time today. It drives really good for a 46 year old truck. Really wish it had power steering though. Seems like I have to turn the wheel 20 times to turn into a driveway.

It's all good though 'cause she runs good now. I may try to make a custom power steering setup when we take it apart to install the new suspension and crossmembers since it will use a rack and pinion.

Tell me about it! I almost took out some flowers next to my buddy's driveway. The stock drum brakes weren't much help either. After driving that big old truck my S10 felt like it drove itself.

I decoded my VIN according to the 6066gmcguy.org site and if I'm right, my truck was the 6th 1963 GMC made (#1006). That may explain why my truck still has features of a 62 that were changed for 63, like a hydraulic clutch and clear parklight lenses. From what I've read, 63 trucks should have mechanical link clutches and amber lenses. I guess the lenses could have been changed in the 46 years its been around but I'm pretty sure the clutch/brake combo master is stock.

Update:
scored a couple of goodies from ebay!

Power steering pump and bracket

And a spare set of plaids!

I also replaced my taillights, taillight harness, parking lights, and mirrors.

I also had my air cleaner powdercoated satin black and replaced the filter element with a reusable red oil filter. No pics yet though.

I remember the manual steering in my 1960 when I first got it. I used to eyeball parking lots before I would enter. If the lot was tight, I'd leave the truck in the street it was so much work to maneuver. Having a 700-800 lb engine on top of the steering doesn't help. I don't know exactly how much they weigh, but it's a bunch. Power steering was the very first upgrade after the engine change.

If you study the engineering on the V6 it's one of the beefiest engines ever built. I originally wanted to keep the V6, but it had cracked valves and a rebuild was over $2500 at a time I could get a new Targetmaster 350 for $800. That carb swap looks great. Allows much more tuneability than the stock setup.

Sweet truck. I'm guessing its got a sm420? Is it leaf or coil sprung in the back? You should find one of those huge gmc V6s to swap in. I love the gmc hoods

It weighs just under 800 lbs. Big ol' fat tires on front aren't helping the situation either

Thanks. Yep, sm420. It's a leafspring truck. All GMCs 63 and up were Leafsprings.

It has a 305 V6. That's plenty big for me

I think so. I've seen a few complete motors and misc. parts here and there but it was the first ps bracket I had seen so I snatched it up.
