Re: Some Assembly Required / build #2
Finished parting the blue truck today and it is off to its new owner . I got the frame inside and out of the weather . It has been foggy and rainy here for a week so not any outside work going on . I'll get some good progress pics after the gym tonight . If it quits raining i will bring home the white truck tommorow , but i got to do rear brakes on my powerstroke before i tow again .

Re: Some Assembly Required / build #2
I finally got some work done . I've had a pile of parts waiting on me to get to work . Well the truck chassis came with a 3.07 open . i had a 3.40 on the shelf and had ordered a posi unit for it . I got the posi unit off Ebay out of Canada rebuilt for $250 shipped . This thing was spotless and you could tell someone took there time disassembling and cleaning it up .
Oh , and what would a 12 bolt gear change be without a broken center pin . Got lucky on this one . While i had the axles out i put new brake shoes and wheel cylinders in the rear . Painted both drum with chassis paint and cleaned everything up . Not as nice as a show truck , but this one will be a driver . My original 3.07 gear had a loose backlash of .020 and the pinion preload was very tight . I replaced the gear and the pinion preload ended up at 8 in#'s . The backlash I tightend up to .011 . The gear rolled through good and had a good contact pattern , so i feel comfortable with it . This one makes #7 i have done gear swaps on . Man gear lube stinks . I have the calipers , pads and hoses for the front . I entend to get the hardware kit for the calipers and new mount pins . I'll get the rotors painted and have them turn them to make sure there true . Talked to the machinist the other day and looks like i will be building a 383 . I have all the parts to build a nice forged piston 355 , but i think i want to try a 383 . as of now i plan to use the th400 out of the white truck . i will be hauling it home within the week and begin disassembly .

Re: Some Assembly Required / build #2
Looks like a nice install on the posi! Did you have any issues setting clearance between the pinion and ring? I have always steered away from changing ring and pinion sets because of lack of confidence. I have an old rear end for our project that has a ton of slack and needs rebuilt.
Keep the pics coming....and Merry Christmas! |

Re: Some Assembly Required / build #2
Well all the hard lines up front are plugged? up , so i have been replacing them as i go . I got the driverside finished and i am working on the passengerside . Got the rear end completely buttoned up and ready to go . Bought the pistons for the motor and im looking for a block . I'll post some pics tommorow . I have been showered with problems as of late . Lots of overtime at work , silly door knob broke on the back door , driverside stub shaft and bearings failed on my powerstroke , it down waiting on parts . Trying to sell my Trans am , also got a super offer on the 68' Camaro that i don't think i can pass on . Just kinda been plain ol' busy .

Re: Some Assembly Required / build #2
Camaro sold , got what i wanted for it and it is going to a good home .
It is raining so i couldn't pick the motor up today . Found a 1991 1-ton crewcab with 350 . I'll see tommorow if it is 4 bolt . My intentions are to build a 383 . I have 350 forged pistons so if it has a forged crank it will be a 355 . I have heard it is hit and miss , could be 2 or 4 bolt , cast or forged crank 1-tons could be both . I will top it with a set of fastburn GM heads i have and RPM airgap that is port matched to them . XR288HR roller and either a HEI or my full MSD set up . I intend to put a looser converter in it , around 2500 . Going to try and wrap up the brake stuff tommorow . Will be moving parts over soon.

How much was the Camaro? Sorry I missed that one..I have a few old rusty Camaros sitting out back. It would be cool to buy one that is actually driveable.

Wel id perfer not to say , but if i had the money in my hand i probaly would not have bought it , but they were happy with it so it worked out . It went to a good home . The car will be finished out nice . It will be nice lowering the number of projects im working on . I also find i enjoy the trucks more than the cars as far as projects go . They are just funner to me & everyone can connect with them and enjoy them .
