I'm thinking about the tear drop as I alrerady have a pair of 5.25" components from a previous project.

I got some of the 6x9 panels from the guy making them here.

My only gripe was that I was limited to the "Depth" of the Speaker in relation ship to the E-Brake, and the Depth of the Kick Panel itself.
I wanna say it was like 2 7/8" Depth.

Reviving this old thread - does anyone know if this guy still makes these? I tried sending an e-mail a few days ago to the address above and got no reply. Would love a pair of these - they are so much better-looking than the other options out there.

Question: Are the vents in the cowl only to allow air to come in through the lower cab vents? If so then a smooth vent would be the way to go as I don't want the vents. I want to use AC only, does closing the cowl vent affect the heater or AC?

The vent under the cowl is for fresh air to be introduced to the cab.

I have a factory looking AC system in my 71 with a few mods I did.

1st I took the vacum canister off since the flapper was broke and not working. I then sealed off the cowl vent with AC tape and a small peice of sheetmetal.
I also took the vacum canister off the passenger side cab vent and put the handle back on it.
When I run the air now I open the cab vent on the passenger side and it recirculates the air inside the cab and keeps it coolier. Thus my ac runs at 38 degree's all the time now.

The cowl vent is to let fresh outside air in while you run your AC. This takes longer to cool the cab down because it's always having fresh hot air from outside to cool.
As for the heat I don't know yet. I just did this mod at the beginning of last spring so I haven't used the heat yet.

Here's the latest from the guy who makes these things:

Below is some current information on the kick panels.

1. ABS textured finish "without" air vent grilles, (round or teardrop shape)=$110.00 pr.
2. ABS textured finish "with" black plastic air vent grilles,(round or teardrop)=$130.00 pr.
3. ABS Vinyl covered "without" air vent grilles (round or teardrop shape) = $160.00 pr.
4. ABS Vinyl covered "with" black plastic air vent grilles(round or teardrop)=$180.00pr

NOTE: All of these panels "Do Not" include speakers and are Not pre-cut for speakers or air vent grilles. and are set up to hold 5-1/4" speakers and up to a 2" tweeter on the tear drop shape pods And they can be attached by pre-drilling the kick panel and using self tapping sheet metal screws or for a cleaner look you can also use an automotive grade Velcro tape.(not included)

I know this thread is old but I thought I would try E mailing the guy and see if he still sells them.

The price for these panels are below, all panels come with air vent grilles installed and are not cut out for speakers. These panels do not include speaker and will require some trimming depending on your floor board covering thickness.
Also the 6-1/2" panels are used only with e-brake handle under the dash as the foot e-brake will inter fear with speaker on the driver side.
